Elvis Presley Enterprises and the Regional Medical Center at Memphis only need 250 more people signed up for a specialty Elvis Presley license plate to be put into production..

The two groups have been trying to reach the 1,000 purchasers that’s needed for the state to begin production of the ‘King’s’ license plate. They have 750 of the 1000 needed.

The Medical Center was given a one year extension after the deadline came and went last year.  This years deadline is June 30th.

Hospital spokesman Kathy Stringer said ”We’re planning a radio blitz to try to reach the goal,” she said. Radio spots already have run in Memphis and many more are about to air in other local cities.

If for some reason 250 people fail to sign up by June 30th The Medical Center may seek another extension when the state legislature begins its next session in January.

Proceeds from sales of the plate would benefit the medical center’s Elvis Presley Memorial Trauma Center.

The plates cost about $35 more than regular license plates. The Med estimated last year it would receive roughly $20 in revenue for each plate sold.
