Perez Hilton’s webhost has dropped Perezhilton.com.
From Variety.com:
After numerous warnings against Hilton’s (aka Mario Lavandeira) use of copyrighted celebrity images, the Oz-based Crucial Paradigm took the site off line; it was dark for a number of hours before it returned to the Internet with a different host.
Hilton is currently named in four lawsuits involving eight photo agencies for his alleged theft of photographs that appear on his site, one that’s been a popular gossip destination for some 2½ years. Hilton frequently adds his own captions to the shots.
"One of the things the (Crucial) administrator in Sydney had told us the day before was if they received any more notices — any claim of copyright infringement — the site is coming down immediately," said Matt Lum, owner of Hoodlum Productions, the L.A.-based company that manages Hilton’s site.
"The action was taken, in my opinion, to insure Crucial some sort of proof if they were sued, some way to protect themselves."
Crucial Paradigm had no comment on the action.
Hilton’s site is up and running, albeit on less than full power.
"He has a skeleton or temporary situation where he can still post," Lum explained.
"It has limited inter-activity, his archives are not there and things like that. We’ve enabled him to continue to do what he does to a limited degree until we can figure how to handle the larger situation."
What he does — limited or not — is exactly the problem, from the agency point of view.
"It’s the first victory, and we put a lot of work into trying to get this to happen," said Francois Navarre, co-owner of L.A.-based X17 agency. His company has filed a suit against Hilton, claiming that Hilton has been using X17 images for nearly a year.
"It’s a precedent that’s huge. When we were talking to Crucial Paradigm they were saying they were not responsible, dragging their feet. We had to threaten them and show them they were liable. His new host is Blogads, and we’re contacting them already."
"If it’s correct, it’s a very important event in our client’s lawsuit," stated Nick Penkovsky, a member of the legal team representing five agencies suing Hilton.
"It’s always been our position that this lawsuit is not simply about protecting our clients’ work, but that copyrighted work is not free to be poached for posting on the Internet without permission and compensation."
Hilton, who has contended that his actions fall under the fair use provision of the Copyright Act, did not respond to Daily Variety.

Thanks Joy for sending this to me. I had no idea this had happened because I really don’t care to see Mario’s lame ass MS paint cum drawings on celebs. Hey, I know I don’t have the best gossip blog out there but I do know that his is certainly not it either.
Can someone tell me why it is okay for celebrity forums to post thousands of these same pictures everyday and no one is hassling them? What makes it different for them? Are they paying for them (which would cost thousands a day if they were) and then posting them on their ‘free’ sites? Doubtful.
Obviously that is where Perez is getting his pics, and that’s where most bloggers get them. Most of us don’t make the hundreds or easily thousands a day it would cost to purchase the photographs from paparazzi. They aren’t cheap.
I quit posting paps pics I got off the celebrity forums after nearly losing my entire site after a complaint. But the questions still linger in my head. I seriously want to know about the celebrity forums. Hmmm..maybe I’ll write to X17 and ask them.

Well, celebrity forums posters do no post the pics for profit.
Blogs such as Perez’s are supposed to get big advertising money so the bigger the “scoop” or paparazzo pic = the bigger the profits for the blogger, its not rocket science.
I have a gossip blog too and make peanuts. It’s not the photos that make you $$, it’s your sense of humor. I think that Perez is the exception to the rule. None of us are making the money he is making. He SHOULD be paying for the photos. I think it’s ridiculous at how X17 has gone after the little guys as well. And if you are telling me that the celebrity forums (which I do NOT use) are not profitting you are clueless.
So it’s ok to use copyrighted material as long as you aren’t making money on your site? Show me one site that uses the pics and doesn’t make any money on their site. Just show me one.
Spicy, you’re my girl.
Note to De Snipa: Even if the celebrity posters on forums are not posting the pics for profit, the forum sites which allow them to post the pics are indeed making money, so you’re theory doesn’t hold up. Obviously, you’ve not noticed the ads on those celeb forums. They are making money via the advertisers, just like Perez. Perhaps more importantly is to ask the question of just where the posters on the forums are actually getting the pics in the first place? Hasn’t that ever seemed odd to anybody else?
I purchase a license via various agencies to publish pics on my sites, but let me tell you, X-17 is the devil. It’s one thing to publish known copyrighted pics like Perez and quite another to see pics all over the intenet and yet only a few sites are singled out for cease and desist letters. What’s the fucking deal with that? This isn’t a level playing field and X-17 chooses who can keep them up and who can’t.
The larger your site is, the more you’re hassled. Trust me.
This is all great information, thanks everyone. I’m not really a fan of Perez, so I don’t care either way about his site, really, but I’m going to keep this all in mind for my site! I take pictures from other celebrity blog sites too but I link to the post the picture came from. I think that’s a safer way of doing it. Of course, I could be totally wrong.
I love reading perezhilton.com.I’m thinking the only reason why X17 is being a bunch of crying bitches is because Perez is making much more than they are and plus he’s actually funny! It’s just a big pissing contest on X17’s part I believe,Perez will keep blogging no matter what some celebrity stalking paparazzi(with a fairly bad reputation) throws at him.
I also have a gossip blog and am on the fence on this one.
First off this all started when x17 was complaing that Perez was not giving a source for his pic’s!
Which he should but on the other hand if it’s an x17 pic than it has the watermark anyway which
Indicates where the pic originated.
So was that the real reason?
They didn’t really start complaining till Perez’s website
started to blow up and have a lot of publicity. And he started making alot of money! I do not really like Perez because he come’s across as shady. He say’s he get’s his story’s from Anonymous source’s which is not true I haven’t seen anything really on his site that was “exclusive”.And he reports the new’s gossip selectively playing favorite’s not posting anything about Paris till recently. His reader’s notice this and frequently bash him for it in comments but he’s doing something right I guess. People despite complaining come right back for more! I don’t like to put Perez down he put celebrity blogging on the map.So we all (blogger’s) benefit from him in a way. As a person I don’t care for him as a blogger I don’t agree with his tactic’s But what he’s doing as far as the law suit’s is protecting freedom of speech and
by him fighting x17 and other’s
he is protecting us the blog owner’s who rely on pic’s to use in our stories. And the blog reader’s who have there favorite blog’s to Entertain them. Most blog’s do not make that much money
Perez is the exception to the rule. And although we may or may not like Perez. The law suit will
eventually effect all blog’s in the future. So that’s one reason maybe he doe’s not pay for pic’s because if he doe’s than everyone eventually migtht have to ! He can afford it but many almost all other’s can’t and would have to shut down. And that’s where freedom of speech comes in!
