I know I am supposed to be on the up-and-up of this sort of thing but an email I received from the National Enquirer is throwing me through a loop.

They are reporting about his final moments but I thought he was still alive? I have searched and cannot find any information about his ‘passing’.

Here’s the article:

Merv Griffin Faced Death Holding His Son’s Hand

TV legend Merv Griffin clung to his last moments of life holding the hand of his only child, Tony.

The 82-year-old showman’s prostate cancer returned, spread to his lungs, back and bones and left him weak and in agony in his final days, The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively.

“Merv was in terrible pain when he was admitted to the hospital on July 13,” a source told The ENQUIRER.

“By then the doctors had told him there really was nothing more medically that could be done for him. All that was left was to keep him as comfortable as possible as he waited for the end.”

Merv’s prostate cancer was first diagnosed in 1996, when he went public with his condition and vowed to beat it in an exclusive ENQUIRER interview.

The disease recurred three years later in 1999. But again, the entertainer battled it and seemed to have conquered the disease one more time.

“But over the last few months he began to fail,” the source confided.

“He’d lost weight, became very weak and tired easily. Still, he maintained that amazing twinkle in his eye.”

One of the things that gave Merv purpose during the past few years was his friendship with former First Lady Nancy Reagan.

“He practically dedicated himself to Nancy after the president died in 2004,” said the source.

“Merv was the one who really got Nancy through those terrible days.”

It was just weeks ago that doctors determined Merv’s cancer had returned, revealed the source. They devised a new course of treatment for the ailing star, but the cancer spread rapidly.

“He finally sat down his son Tony and spelled it out for him that he didn’t have much more time left.”

Merv was married in 1958 to Julann Wright. The couple had one child, Tony, soon after and divorced in 1976.

Tony was with his father when he was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and never left his side.

“Of course there were tears,” added the source. “But there were also laughs and a lot of happy recollections. Tony held his father’s hand tenderly, even when Merv would drift off to sleep.”

“They don’t make ‘em like my old man anymore.” Tony told a friend. “He told me he had a great run and no regrets.”

I searched news sources, Wikipedia and Google. Nothing!
I’ll keep you updated on this one..
