The judge in the O.J. Simpson case set bail at $125,000 this morning.
The 11 charges being brought against him were read in the courtroom. 10 of which are felonies.
The charges:
* Two counts of first-degree kidnapping, a felony, carrying the possibility of life in state prison or a definite term of 15 years, depending on the sentencing judge’s discretion. Parole eligibility begins after five years.
* Two counts of robbery with use of a deadly weapon, a felony, is punishable by a mandatory 2-15 years in prison, plus a possible additional 1-15 years for use of a weapon.
* Burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon, a felony, is punishable by 2-15 years in prison.
* Coercion with use of a deadly weapon, a felony, is punishable by 2-12 years in prison.
* Two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, a felony, is punishable by 1-6 years.
* Conspiracy to commit kidnapping, a felony, is punishable by 1-6 years.
* Conspiracy to commit robbery, a felony, is punishible by 1-6 years.
* Conspiracy to commit a crime, a gross misdemeanor, is punishable by 1 year in county jail.
The judge asked Simpson, “Mr. Simpson do you understand the charges against you?” To which he replied, “Yes, sir.” Simpson did not enter a plea and won’t until the status hearing which is set for October 22nd.
Simpson may not have any contact with the other defendants or the victims in this case.
The judge instructed him, “If you see them walking down the street, you’re to cross the street. You do not use any means to contact these individuals. Don’t use e-mail, telephone, mail, passenger pigeon, no, whatsoever, contact.”
Simpson must also surrender his passport, which he has already done. He is not considered a flight risk.
