Radiohead has allowed fans to download their album In Rainbows for any price they want to pay. Whether it be nothing or $15, fans could set their own price. It was revolutionary, however it has not been profitable.
More than 60 per cent of people who were allowed to set a price didn’t pay a dime.
Of the 38 per cent of fans that paid for it, the majority paid $4 or under, and only four per cent paid more than $12, according to Internet research group ComScore.
In the first month of the album’s release, the group’s site received more than 1.2 million visitors, and most of them downloaded the album.
The survey also found that Americans paid more for the downloads than the rest of the world.
