A couple weeks ago ‘The Breaks: Stylin’ and Profilin’ 1982–1990′ (powerHouse Books) was released.

It’s a cool collection of portraits by British photographer Janette Beckman. Beckman arrived in New York at the moment that hip-hop was about to burst loose into popular culture, and the book is a document of that transformation.
