Beck is being blamed for the drug induced death of New York artist, Theresa Duncan.
Duncan had hopes of Beck starring in a film she had written called Alice Underground. She told friends and Vanity Fair magazine on many occasions that they had discussed working together. The movie is about two school girls that kidnap a rock star (played by Beck) after he tells them he wants to leave the church of Scientology.
Vanity Fair published a couple of Duncan’s emails where she had said that Beck, a real-life Scientologist, had wanted the role but backed out because he was freaking that the cult wouldn’t be very happy about it.
A quote from one of Duncan’s emails,
“He really, really tried to get away by going to New York to be in Alice Underground. He told me he wanted to leave the cult desperately.”
Beck has since told Vanity Fair,
“We never met to discuss the film. I did explain to her I wasn’t looking to act right then, and with the album, tour schedule and a baby on the way, it wouldn’t be feasible. Had we been closer and discussed anything as personal as religion, I would have only had positive things to say about Scientology.”
Duncan died of a drug overdose in July, and many say it’s because Beck destroyed her dreams of making the movie. Duncan’s distraught boyfriend committed suicide one week later.

I know people like to blame others but it was her sole decision to do what she did.

Beck is a Scientologist? Wow, unfortunately this makes me like him less. Everything I have read about that “religion” is not at all flattering – plus it is shrouded in secrecy and lies.
