I wanted to clarify: she was airbrushed more than your average model, NOT airbrushed to look skinnier than your average model.

Hi Spicy,

I've been debating whether to comment on the Toccara/Vogue link, because there is so much to say about it, and because I'm not always sure that anyone actually reads the comments posted to your links section.

The entire July issue of Italian Vogue is dedicated to black models, as a comment about the total absence of them from the fashion world. The photographer, Stephen Meisel, convinced the editors to include Toccara, because he thought she was a beautiful woman, and they said no because she's plus-size. He got his way, but apparently in the end they got theirs, as the Toccara in these photos has been airbrushed skinny, more so than your average model. The B&W photo is ridiculous (omg, the thighs!), as is the photo of her huge boobs. In fact, her boobs wouldn't look so big if the rest of her (face, legs, everything) wasn't airbrushed to look so thin, although I'm not denying the fact that the lady has titanic ta-tas. I think Italian Vogue couldn't help but stick it to her, because if she's not fat, then she's grotesque.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, here's the link to an article in New York Times, "Conspicuous By Their Presence", that includes an awesome slide show of photos from Vogue, including a surprisingly beautiful shot of Tyra --> http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/19/fashion/19BLACK.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Spicy, I think your readers would enjoy the article and photos, so perhaps you would consider posting the link on the Smack?

I hope you're reading,
