Supporters of a renowned lesbian bar in New York’s West Village were left scratching their heads after Samantha Ronson turned down a gig to help the struggling landmark.

‘Rubyfruit’ in the West Village ended up closing, unable to keep up with rising rent costs and a smaller crowd.

However, just this week someone stepped up and financially helped out the club, which will be reopened and named the ‘RF Lounge’.  The grand opening will be in November.

Rubyfruit’s previous DJ, Stacy “Deejay Stacy” Ledwith says it’s all true.  Samantha wanted to have nothing to do with the club – especially after she learned it was a lesbian bar.

She explains, “The owner, Debra Fiero, said how great it would be if Sam Ronson deejayed there one night. At first, her agent said it was $8,000 for the night plus airfare and hotel. Then, he was informed it was a gay and lesbian bar, we were told she doesn’t do those kind of venues. She doesn’t do gay and lesbian bars and clubs. I thought it was kind of strange considering she’s a lesbian. It would have been really great to have her in there and help. It’s really like betraying her sisters. It just doesn’t make sense.

“In our day and age, being gay or lesbian is so accepted. It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever to not work with your own people.”

On the flip side, Samantha’s publicist, Brandon Phelps, insists the story has been fabricated.

He says, “It is not true. I can tell you that I am the only one that runs her calendar and was never approached by Rubyfruit.”
