Hollywood’s Roosevelt Hotel is known for catering to the stars.
Marilyn Monroe lived at the hotel for two years after her career took off, and the 1st annual Academy Awards took place there in 1929.
These days celebrities still flock to the landmark. Whether enjoying lavish pool parties or filming a movie, everyone has been there at one time or another.
That’s why it was so surprising when the New York Post blew the lid on a hotel secret.
If the story holds true, hotel staff decided against draining the pool after a young man was found dead in it.
At 4:30 a.m. Monday Oct. 13, (The Victim), 30, was found dead in the hotel’s Tropicana Bar pool.
After discovering and removing the body, staff had a meeting to discuss the unfortunate incident. It all came down to one single question.
Drain or not to drain.
They decided on not draining the pool. The reason? Apparently there was enough chlorine in the water to kill all bacteria. After the decision, staff was supposedly told to keep quiet for fear of the story getting out.
So one week later, while Lindsay Lohan, Samantha Ronson, Eve, Kevin Connolly, Stacy Keibler, Justin Long, Sarah Chalke, Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks (just to name a few) enjoyed the famous pool, they were swimming in the dead man’s water.
So what does Thompson Hotel (owner of the Roosevelt) have to say about the situation?
Stephen Brandman, chief operating officer, says first of all, the rumors about staff being told to be quiet about the pool situation are not true.
As for the pool water he stated, “Somebody did die, but we don’t think anything awkward or bizarre occurred. He had a heart attack.”
UPDATE: Thompson Hotels has released the following statement to Celebrity Smack:
Last week there was a death surrounding the property of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Out of respect for the family, Thompson has not released the name of the deceased nor any private details.
Unfortunately this morning inaccurate reports regarding the incident occurred. The death in fact was not pronounced at the Hollywood Roosevelt, it was pronounced away from the hotel, only after the individual was taken away by emergency medical staff in an ambulance.
We can assure guests who have used the pool since the incident that proper procedures were taken, and the pool was drained and cleaned once authorities completed their on-site investigation.
Thompson Hotels hope that journalists will respect the family during this time of loss and suffering, and share our deepest sympathies.

I knew Jordan…. And this should have been handled in a more sanitary mannor. But it is so hard to see that because of someone else’s failure to secure the safety other Hotel Guests, that Jordan should be remembered in this way. He was far from gross. He was the most tender loving and caring person that all of us who are missing him now , have ever known. He spent his life taking care of others. This is a heart break for us that love him.
