yep-people laughed at Ricky’s joke- unlike Sascha Baron Cohen. His attempt at humor just seemed to make the crowd uncomfortable.

The whole point was that it WASN’T an inside joke! It was a shout out to her and fans of some work they did toghether. If you check out the episode of Extras, it’ll all come clear. Winslet is so self-effacing and hilarious! She spouts the kind of filth you would only expect to hear emitted from a veteran construction worker… I’m with you on the hyper-pc thing shark. Let’s not all jump to judgement on the mere grounds that we assume we’re in on the joke!!!

Well, Ricky, if you knew it was an inside joke… that’s where you should’ve kept it. It came off like the biggest insult in the world. Yeah, I know, I’m not the most politically correct shark in the world, and a lot of these PC twits walk on eggshells for people like Jesse Jackson that use the ‘n’ word in private(Note to JJ; if you are on a news show and you have a mic on, nothing is private or off the record). But this one was better left unsaid.

I thought Ricky Gervais was funny — and so did Kate Winslet! She didn’t appear nervous or embarrassed at all, and was laughing quite hard.

BTW: Spicy, if you haven’t seen Extras, I think it is the kind of show you would really enjoy — inappropriate/hilarious humor, awkward moments, and celebrities making fools of themselves. If you get a chance, watch it!!

Also, I’m so happy you’re bringing back Dog of the Week! I only hope I can get my act together and send a picture of my ridiculous canine Emma the Wonder Dog. The more dogs posted, the better!

it was actually a reference to season 1, episode 1 of EXTRAS, which was on HBO a couple of years ago. Winslet was the guest star, playing a snotty version of herself, and she engages in a conversation with Gervais’ character , both of who are playing actors in a holocaust movie.

She states that holocaust movies always get awards and that she is due and has no interest in actually spreading the message of the holocaust (”we get it…it was dread”). later, she concludes saying that “retards” always win (hoffman; Hanks; etc) and that was another good avenue towards an award.

The show is very funny and i am 100% sure that Ricky was referencing that show and was not just a random piece of conversation.
