The Captain of US Airways flight 1549 has been dubbed a hero by those who were passengers on the flight from New York to Charlotte, NC.

Shortly after takeoff from LaGuardia Airport the US Airways Airbus A320 struck a flock of birds and was forced to land in the Hudson River.

Capt. Sullenberger made a precise emergency landing into the water, saving all 155 passengers on board.

Former National Transportation Safety Board Inspector Greg Feith says it’s nothing short of a miracle.

“You only have one shot at this in real life. If he dragged a wing, had one wing down, he could have cartwheeled the airplane and we would be talking about fatalities.”

Sullenberger III is a former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot with over 40 years of flying experience. He was also an instructor and Air Line Pilots Association safety chairman, accident investigator and national technical committee member.
