Despite her recent assault by boyfriend Chris Brown, Rihanna had a blast celebrating her 21st birthday.

Accompanied by a group of friends, the singer caught a movie and then went out for a night on the town.

A source told Life & Style magazine, “[She] first went to an early showing of Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail in Santa Monica. She looked beautiful. She was wearing glasses, so you couldn’t see her eyes, but she looked fine to me.”

After the movie the group headed for the Hollywood Hills where they attended a party in Rihanna’s honor. A party guest says that the star was pampered with birthday cake and champagne. Guests also sang ‘Happy Birthday’.

The source added that Rihanna, who kept her sunglasses on all night, was a little slow to get into the party but after awhile got into the groove and was eventually dancing the night away.
