Twitter to the rescue!

A suicidal woman used Twitter to tell Demi Moore that she was going to kill herself and was saved after the actress reposted the message to her followers.

Around 3 a.m. Friday morning a woman sent Moore a message that said:

“getting a knife, a big one that is sharp. Going to cut my arm down the whole arm so it doesn’t waste time.”

Demi re-Tweeted the message saying, “Hope you are joking…Everyone I was very torn about responding or retweeting that woman’s post but felt uncomfortable just letting it go.”

The outpouring from her followers began immediately. People from all over the world phoned in to the San Jose Police Department describing what they had read online.

Police say the woman was found at her home and had not hurt herself. She was taken in for evaluation.

Demi, relieved, thanked her followers for for assisting her in the situation:

“Thanks everyone for reaching out to the San Jose PD i am told they are aware and no need to call anymore. I do not know this woman,” the actress wrote. “I am inspired by the enormous response of humanity here and thank you… It is my understanding that the situation was not a joke and that through the collective efforts here action was taken to provide help!”
