Britney Spears and her team of dancers were left struggling for fresh air at the show in Vancouver last night, causing Brit & co. to leave the stage for more than a half an hour.

The building was supposed to be smoke free but the Canucks insisted on smoking their ciggies and their cloves…and their weed.

After the stage cleared, a female voice announced to the crowd, “The building is awfully smoky. It is uncomfortable for everyone on stage, including Ms. Spears. Please extinguish all cigarettes – this is a non-smoking building, and the show will resume when the smoke on the stage is cleared.”

It took more than a half hour for the smoke to dissipate, and in that time the crowd had become agitated and started booing the singer.

Britney eventually reappeared and continued on with the show. However she left her next song early, and when she came back out she pleaded with the crowd, “Vancouver, don’t smoke weed!”

After the show, Britney’s team put the following apology on the star’s website: “We want to apologize to all the fans who attended our Vancouver show tonight for the brief pause in Britney’s set. Crew members above the stage became ill due to a ventilation issue.”
