Jaime Foxx looked absolutely ridiculous as the host on the BET Awards and I’m not afraid to say it.
After the death of Michael Jackson, the show decided to do a tribute to the pop icon. But it wasn’t about Michael Jackson, it was about Jamie Foxx.
Foxx came out in Michael Jackson “costumes” that were ill-fitting, cheap looking and made him look like a total fool onstage!
And as for his hosting abilities, simply put, he sucked ass. He seemed to almost beg for responses from the audience, who at times, were so quiet you could hear Amber Rose’s who-ha squeak as she crossed her legs.
As I said on Twitter, I am embarrassed for Michael Jackson. Jamie Foxx looked like a Michael Jackson Barbie Doll more than anything. Even during his performance. Yes, he even performed in one of the “costumes”.
Then there was Michael’s dad, Joe, shown clapping his hands as he moved to Bell Biv DeVoe, you know, obviously grieving. And finally, Jeremy Piven, Hollywood’ #1 Richard Cranium, making a pitiful joke as he “honored” Michael.
Some tribute. BET Awards = Fail.

you must be a dumb cunt Jamie did a great job
HATER
I originally tuned in to see what kind of tribute would be paid to Michael Jackson, and then I remembered that Jamie Foxx was hosting… and I recalled just how much I hate him for being incredibly obnoxious and annoying. And that was just too much for me, and I changed the channel to something else.
Don’t hate the playa, hate the game, dude.
Have a pleasant immediate future.
I think YOURE a dumb cunt seejaykayagee. GET OFF THIS SITE ASSHOLE I completely agree with Spicy thats why I read her posts. JAMIE FOXX is a complete D-bag and you are to.
Jamie Foxx is an IDIOT. There’s a time & place for everything. That was neither. He totally “Dishonored” The King of Pop, Micheal Jackson, which he probably wishes he was. We can never get back the moment BET had to give this Icon his respect. He’s a “Thief”.
Why did Jamie Foxx have to talk about Michael’s ” looks” ?
yes, there were some well meaning people and things said but much of it
was “BAD”
I was really dissapointed in Jamie Foxx’s comments, he obviously hasnt followed Michael Jackson’s History or he would of known all that MJ stood for.
He hated any form of discrimination, hatred, & colour divide so for Jamie to make his pathetic comments about MJ being his & only sharing him with rest of us would not of impressed MJ in any way, in fact i think he would thought all of his efforts to change peoples opinions would of been wasted! Jamie should be ashamed of himself for making Michaels acheivements about colur alone instead of his overall brilliance as a man & entertainer!
Seems like someone did not get the whole act on BET hey Spicy?
We all know Jamie Foxx is a comedian and a good one at that and I don’t know anyone else who could have hosted the 2009 BET Awards better.
I am a huge fan of Michael Jackson and it’s such a shame the music industry lost such a genius, but if you didn’t get Jamie Foxx and where he was coming from well there’s not much I can say.
Jamie Foxx delivered memorable monumental moments of what Michael Jackson represented and with light hearted jest he engaged the audience to celebrate his triumphs.
As well as it’s a sad time for everyone who’s been touched by the King of Pop’s sudden passing, the 2009 BET Awards produced a great show to commemorate such a huge icon in such a short space of time.
Everyone will have their own opinions on such a subject, but unnecessary digs to justify your own personal discomfort can seem unfortunate. In this case I think the intention of, such a personality, as Jamie Foxx was misunderstood.
Thanks Shay. U said it best!
For a pre-planned show to be able to add a tribute almost at the last minute is amazing. The tribute was great. No one can ever be michael jackson so of course no one will be as good as him. And as for Spicy, what have you hosted lately to talk about someone els’s hosting skills? I just think you wanted attention from this post.
i agree…keep jamie foxx and ole joe jackson off the tv.. media whores all of them…
I WAS ALWAYS A JAMIE FOXX FAN UNTIL NOW..
I AM DISGUSTED THAT A TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL JACKSON, “THE KING OF POP”, AND AN ICON TO THE ENTIRE WORLD, NO MATTER WHAT SKIN COLOR, WAS KICKED OFF WITH A COMMENT STATING THAT HE WAS “THEIRS”, AND THEY SHARED HIM WITH EVERYONE ELSE… COME ON MAN… IF WE EVER WANT TO MOVE ON FROM RACIAL PROBLEMS, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN THE PERFECT TIME TO BRING EVERYONE TOGETHER AS ONE…. NOT SEPARATE.
COMPLETELY CHILDISH AND CLASSLESS.
I think jamie did his best under the circumstances although some comments may have come across insensitive. With that being said I feel BET could’ve created a whole other program to celebrate MJ instead of changing the whole BET awards. The show seemed forced and chopped N screwd and not in a good way. The only performances that stood out were jay z nd neyo, KC nd Monica also simply because I love the song. Other than that thee awards as a whole was a failure. Simply put, Worst BET AWARD show ever! Nd Beyounce wtf! What was she thinking performing that song such a dissapointment. [R.I.P MJ]
Jamie Foxx sucks. He has average talent in several areas ( decent actor, average singer, sort of funny comedian, crappy radio host, etc), so people try to make him seem well rounded. His clothes were ridiculous, his speech was offensive. What if a white guy said something like “Tom Brady is OURS”….
Michael Jackson seemed to get that he was a person of the world, and did not draw the same distinctions Jamie Foxx made last night between “them” and ” the rest of us”. Weak way to play up to an audience. Would he have gone to the “us” and “them” card at the Grammys or Oscars??
Jamie Foxx is a complete idiot. He has totaly missed the message. “I’m not gonna spend my life being a color.” Michael was far more insightful than someone like Jamie Foxx could ever understand. Michael’s soul had no color. He was far beyond that in a way that a lot of people can’t relate to. I just wish more people knew what an outrageously gifted person like Michael could see.
At the time MJ was accused i didn’t see/hear jamie the fox.
Jamie Foxx was horrific…total fail.
not to mention his vocals induse nausea.
Jamie Foxx was and is pathetic. As far as his speech about Michael being “a black man”, and reiterating it for emphasis, and then saying “we gave him to you.” What was that all about? And why must a tragic end to someone’s life be reduced to such filth? Jamie, you did not do the argument against racism any justice with your ranting at the BET’s.
I was so appalled at Jamie Foxx’s comments and performance during the BET awards. I have always thought of Jamie as a good actor but now, I’m not certain what to think. When are these publically declared racially biased comments going to end, “he’s ours, not theirs”? MJ would not have wanted this kind of behavior. Maybe Jamie needs to listen to the lyrics of MJ’s Black or White, again. MJ was his own, not owned by any group of people, despite color. His music belonged to everyone…why does racism have to play a role in the tragic loss of such a brilliant performer?
Antonina- Very well stated.
Flying Dutchman- The reason you did not hear from Jamie during Michael’s troubled times is simply because Jamie could not benefit from it at the time. Now Jamie saw an opportunity to gain from it. He is an opportunist only looking to capitalize on someone else’s misfortune. Very sad.
I was also appalled, I thought it was the most half ass effort of a tribute show!! ESPECIALLY for BET .. and Jaime was saying his people owned Michael!!! Good job Jaime because you suck at it!! But boy did he take the opportunity to try and sing some of his songs didn’t he? he should be sorry he even tried.. its disgraceful. . thanks for putting this blog out there..
Ya and Joe Jackson should be shot .. . nuf said. .
ya when MJ was going through his troubles Jaime had no part in “owning” him then did he? *ucker. . . find someone else to make money off of . and get your damn head straight … you did the show you good with your racist ranting about his skin color and how owned him . .
his performance was embarrasing. he didnt even know when to move on from one thing to the next. he was constantly asking… “Is it time”….. and to have given so much respect to the Devil “Joe Jackson”. you called that Honoring the memory of MJ fall back cause BET AWARDS SHOW WAS WACK
Thank you Tom. I know everyone is hurting from the loss of MJ, which is why I cannot understand what I saw on the BET awards. Janet Jackson was the only one with class and showed genuine grief. After hearing MJ’s father, Joe Jackson, plug his own record company on the red carpet, I thought what a horrible way to mourn the loss of his son. Hasn’t MJ suffered enough? That show was a sham and a very poor reflection on how to celebrate the life of one of the greatest, if not the greatest, music icons. Even in death, there are sharks feeding off of this man’s life. A public apology should be made by the show’s producers and Jamie Foxx, and if not to the public, then to MJ’s family members who are “genuinely” grieving and mourning his loss.
I totally agree. Foxx was an embarrasment to the black race AND to MJ. What a fool he is! And how disrespectfull to come out impersonating MJ so soon after his death.
As a black man I was embarrassed by Jamie Foxx and his racial comments. Maybe Jamie wouldn’t be as great in your eyes if he were white but I really don’t care what color he is or anybody for that matter. Why does he ALWAYS have to make it a race thing? It is sad because Jamie wasn’t like that years ago… forgot his roots or something. His head is as big as he is tall!
Thank you! I’m so glad I found ppl who agree w/ me. I just googled “Jamie Foxx went to far on BET Awards” & found this. I wanted to know was I tripping or did he really act an azz. To be honest I assumed that’s why Alicia Keys said something to the effect that ppl should be RESPECTFUL in their tribute to MJ. I was glad to when Janet got out there & said , “..to you he’s an icon. To us his FAMILY”. I was feelin where Janet was coming from. Hey many of us feel like Michael is family …Jamie should have realized that & been a lil more sensitive
Foxx should’ve had a toilet plunger with him, with all the plugging he was doing….dude, leave your crummy tour out of this….it’s a tribute to MJ, you mugging, untalented hack—not a time to forward your own career.
Was there one performance he didn’t feel he had to interrupt with his crappiness?
Jamie Foxx was the worst host in the history of the BET Awards. He was not funny. He was a disgrace to the comedian community and the music industry. He had a great opportunity and yet he blew it! He was not the man to host a tribute to MJ.
jamie fox is a moron, he sickens me, i used to like him, what a jerk, a real jerk and JAMIE, YOU CAN HAVE MICHAEL. WHO WANTS HIM.
Get in the crapper and push the flusher ______FOXX
Man why are you worried about jamie he cared jus as much about micheal as we did he had 3 days to come up with everything think of what you could it put his basic memorys of the king and thats how he remember him what you should be complaning about is the dund ass media talking about his money issues and all of his court cases. We all have diffrent ways to exspress are self jamies way is comedy i would say more about who wrote this and what i think he/she is but i dont want to sound like somthing im not but bottom line the nite was for micheal is was not to pleases you
I never minded (or ever really even considered) jamie foxx until I saw his comment on the news and honestly I was pretty disgusted. He really sounded ignorant to me. To claim that a person belongs to a certain race and that he was shared by them with everyone else is completely stupid. Maybe this is the reason that Michael Jackson got so fucked up…because he was being pulled in a million different directions and no one just left him to be who he wanted to be. I also agree with Kerry who said that MJ would have hated the comment. How backwards is it to be blatantly separating races in to “us” and “them”? It’s honestly one enormous step in the wrong direction and he should be ashamed
Funny how Al Sharpton states that Michael Jackson brought races together through music, but then a guy like Foxx makes idiotic and disrespctful remarks at an awards show. What a contrast in sentiments. I hate to keep beating the racism drum, but the only way racism will end is if people learn the art of forgiveness. Sure, it is alot to ask, and nobody is suggesting we forget about the past. Let’s just not continue to dwell on the past. Foxx did not do racism any good by making his comments, which in my opinion, seemed to incite a tone of anger from some of the folks who attended.
i felt bad for janet jackson, in attendance, witnessing such garbage.
Foxx is an idiot! Bad host, bad taste, bad costumes, bad comments!
I’ve lost respect for Jamie Foxx. If a white person were to say that about a white icon (”he’s ours and we shared him with you”) Al Sharpton would be right there squaking.
I agree With Linda.
To add to it, not only was it disrespectful, but I found it disgusting because most of the “ours” he was referring to had been embarrassed by him and shunned him long ago.
That majority of MJ fans, that stood by him from start to finish, were not of black majority.
Michael Jackson shared HIMSELF with the world. No one, of any race, owned Michael Jackson; therefore no one, of any race, could have “shared” Michael Jackson with the world! The comment Jamie Foxx made goes against EVERYTHING Michael Jackson’s music stood for, and personally, I believe Michael Jackson would have taken offense to it. It’s really very sad.
That hot mess of a show and pathetic hosting job by Jamie Foxx were an insult to the Michael’s name and legacy. I only hope Janet had just arrived seconds before her appearance and didn’t have to witness that debacle. If Debra Lee had her people working overtime for 3-4 days to pull that garbage together, something is definitely not right in BET-land.
Now we know why Michael didn’t want to be black…..he was embarrassed by black people like Jamie!
I know how we all feel about Foxx’s hosting abilities, and we are all in agreement that he failed miserably. We have a person who had a sad life in spite of all of the talent and riches, and died tragically way too early. It has been stated that Michael Jackson uniquely brought all races together through his music and I agree. Foxx allowed his true personal feelings about race be known to everyone by displaying such a pathetic tribute, if one can call it that, that did nothing to improve race relations. If anything, he accomplished just the opposite, and judging by the looks of some of the people who were in the audience that night, Foxx only succeeded in getting people riled up about race. Mr. Foxx should ask himself one basic question- Am I or am I not interested in bringing peace and harmony to people of all races? Or, will I continue to show my ignorance and true feelings when given a platform for which to speak from?
First of all, let me say that I took total and absolute offense to what Jamie Foxx said. I am not black or white, but rather a mix of seven different nationalities. MJ stood for better than what Jamie Foxx presented. When someone of Caucasian decent says something about someone of African-American decent, they have to make a public apology. I think that Jamie Foxx should have to do the same. No matter what your nationality, it is not okay to make your nationality seem superior, especially not on television. Being a long time fan of Jamie Foxx from his In Living Color days, I am truly disappointed and outraged that he made such a comment. We must take a stand and tell Jamie Foxx that what he said was not okay and demand a publicly televised apology. END RACISM!!
First, let me state that MJ was the KING period. Now while as a person of color I was a bit mad and embarassed for the poor tribute given to a performer that has given us sooooo much. But in saying that Micheal was OURS and everytime the public villified him he was reminded of the race, class, system that exists whether you people like it or not. He was made a pariah in the media and in the public eye, no wonder he left the country. We say we shared him because in essence that’s what happened he has had more cross over appeal than any other artist of color to date…argue that point. No one packed stadiums like Mike did no one has fans like that loyal fans like that. Please remember that MJ was convicted in the public eye by many media outlets making his us appeal diminsh greatly. In his own community he was treated as if he never left…MJ comeback..well he was never gone. Its a tragedy that has left the world mourning and three children without a father. BET failed on many levels but on trying to give him honor in the Black community means throwing that man a parrrrttyyyy. If you don’t get it you never will, at the last minute a PARTY was thrown for the man who cannot be topped by any other in our musical culture how does a pre planned show do that?? It wasn’t the best they could do but it was the worst there were moments that didn’t reflect the kind of life he lead but that’s the beauty of it, because all these people had plenty of love and respect for him and they performed for him.
And another thing the black community was around plenty in the form of security guards, public relations etc, etc. We as true fans never believed any of those things he was being charged with, MJ never had that in him to do the ridiculousness he was was accused of. He was the poster boy for peter pan for he was forever young he grew in apperance but never in his heart. Jamie Foxx has comedy dvd’s where MJ is the butt of the joke and MJ knew about them, even laughed at some of his jokes. We love and respect Mike the same if not more he made it the highest level of achivement and we are proud of him,JAMIE FOXX was saying reagrdless of skin diease or whatever we still considered him a BROTHER and we never forgot it. Regrdless of what people said he was still loved. Everyons I meet has a least 1 fav MJ song, at least 1.
I have to agree with most everyone. I remember playing Thriller so much I wore the tape out. I am a 44 year old white woman and to me, It don’t matter if your black or white. Jamie Foxx should have done his research before attempting to host the Michael Jackson tribute. Michael would have been appalled. As for Joe Jackson…….well, now we know why he’s not in the will.
I used to think Jamie Foxx was cool, but he showed a big lack of taste and judgement that night. On another note, he should not have tried to ‘impersonate” him by dressing in the red jacket and trying to moonwalk. It was neither funny or respectful, and it really showed the contrast in the pure gracefulness that MJ showed in his performances and dance moves. MJ was as graceful a dancer as Fred Astaire had been. Micheal Jackson was ONE OF A KIND. I feel so sad that he has passed on from our world…He is in a better place.
listen everyone, the show was so great you all just hav to dis my homie jamie,we understand the death of the king, but that does make us to forget that its show of fun and entertainment,we know who jamie foxx his and that sholuyd not suprise anyone, paying the dues with fun,if micheal was there he would laugh too……….so no dissing ,big up for my man jamie
Coccbeansupreme, are trying to say that throughout all of MJ’s accusations black people are the only people who didnt believe what was being said & still followed his music? if so….. you are no better than Jamie & ridiculous comments like your’s & his are the reason racism in the world will never end!!
C’mon people. We’re talking about Michael Jackson – a great talent but such a troubled, conflicted man as he got older. What Jamie did was great – he’s a creative, talented performer in every genre. I’ll look forward to him hosting again!!
I have always been a Jamie Foxx fan, but have a problem with his comment(s) on the BET awards. I have loved Michael Jackson since he and his brothers started recording. It never occurred/occurs to me that he was African-American, just like it never occurred to me that Billie Holiday was African-American, or Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis, Jr., Jackie Wilson, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, Sarah Vaughn, and on-and-on. Along those same lines, it never occurred/occurs to me that Elvis Presley was white, or Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Judy Garland, Keely Smith, Barbra Streisand, k. d. lang, Diana Krall, or the color of any of the great artists. All I know is I LOVE their music and the music of other artists, and I love the way it makes me feel. I have CD’s/records of all these artists. I never hear anyone mention Charlie Pride either, who was the first African-American “that I remember” singing Country-Western music. Why does everything have to be about race? Why can’t we just look at Michael Jackson’s genius and enjoy it without bringing race into the picture? Wouldn’t you like to be sitting in on that jam session in the sky when he got there? Talk about entertainment! And by the way …I am white; I am 64-years-old; and I enjoy gifted entertainers no matter what generation, race, religion, or any of those other things on which people attach labels. When I first saw “Thriller,” I didn’t say, “My God, he’s a black genius!” I said, “My God, he’s a genius!” Can’t we just leave it at that …
