Stephanie Birkitt, David Letterman
Stephanie Birkitt, former assistant of David Letterman’s, is reportedly one of the women whom the talk show host had an affair with.
Birkitt lived with the man who attempted to extort Letterman for $2 million, Robert Halderman, a producer for CBS. Halderman had possession of Birkitt’s diary, as well as photos and letters that were proof of the affair. According to sources close to Letterman, the affair ended before his son was born in 2003.
In a 2003 interview Birkitt said of Letterman:
“Aside from being incredibly funny and personable he is generous, kind, and is great fun to play catch with. I really couldn’t ask for a more fun work environment. Dave is truly the greatest boss I could ever have.”
Ah hell, the affair happened ages ago. What a jerk this Robert Halderman is. Slimy, creepy, a**hole who just ruined his own future with this stupid attempt at extortion. This guy had a dream job and he crapped it all down the toilet because he got greedy. Some people’s logic completely baffles me!
as douchey as it is that he cheated on his longtime girlfriend, this should be between them. and it doesn’t sound like his assistant felt pressured to sleep with dave. did this dude really think dave was gonna pay him the blackmail money?
i mean yeah it’s embarrassing to have to confess you’re a cheater but it not like dave did what roman polanski did and drug and rape a minor.
Robert Halderman is an idiot. He should have just written his screenplay and book. The sales of which would have earned him WAY more money than $2 million and is completely legal, free speech being protected by the Bill of Rights and all. This way he not only does not get the money, he is going to do some time AND be labeled a total douche. Maybe you can use your time in prison to write a screenplay or book, Halderman…

This Halderman really is an idiot and I really wonder this Stephanie Birkitt. It seems to me she may have some issues when it comes to dealing with men. I do think Dave comes out of the looking OK. He did admit to infidelity, which I’m sure what go over well at home, but he didn’t get bullied by this blackmailer and ended up getting the moron arrested.

NOWHERE have I seen it stated that these trysts took place while he was involved with his current spouse. For all we know they took place well before he even met his current spouse and it that’s true then he was not necessarily cheating. Get a timestamp on these romantic interludes and you’ll have the whole complete picture to examine rather than immediately jumping to conclusions that Letterman is a cheater. It might even have been years before. We don’t know.
@paularoid: YES at least one of these “trysts” took place while he was with the woman who is now his current wife, Regina Lasko. They have been together for 23 years as I understand it. So I doubt his relationship with Stephanie Birkitt took place while she was in grade school. He’s not Polanski for goodness sakes! You ARE right about one thing – if these things happened before he was married then no, it’s not technically “cheating” depending on your own personal opinion of what cheating actually is. If he did any of this after his son was born that does make it all the more despicable. I’m both surprised and not so surprised about the whole thing. Dave always seems so private and quiet and almost introverted outside of the show so it’s hard to believe he would admit to something like this. On the other hand, for anyone who has watched his show for a long, long time as I have, in recent years he has very obviously become more and more “infatuated” with younger and younger female celibrities who appear on his show. It’s almost embarrassing to watch at times how he behaves and the things he says to them. Also, whenever there is a skit that requires audience participation whether in the studio or on the street he seems to always find a way to pick out the youngest and cutest girl to interact with. Those are just my thoughts – and a few facts.
You guys…. that’s probably why he married Regina cause she found out!!! She stayed with him, gave him and son and still no ring. Blackmail works all ways
