Inglourious Basterds available on DVD and Blu-Ray December 15th
His latest film, Inglourious Basterds hit every sense of the nerve and did not disappoint.
Filmed on-location, dip back in time to Nazi-occupied France, 1941. Tarantino’s vintage Chapters unfolds as charming but cunning SS Nazi officer, Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz), shows the extent of the German’s will in hunting the Jews. Lt. Aldo Rayne (Brad Pitt) is a true Smokey Mountain, Tennessee officer with orders to take 8 Jewish-American soldiers behind enemy lines to hunt and kill as many Nazis (Naht-zis!) as possible. Lt. Rayne’s trace of Apache bloodline elevates the stakes by scalping the Nazis and driving fear into the German war machine. Leaving little room for anticipation, Tarantino takes you through a formidable - but hilarious – fantasy of how the hunter and hunted, often reversed, leads to the possible end of the War.
Each Chapter, a story of it’s own, is always a fluent transition from the last. A fabulous performance by Melanie Laurent as Shoshanna, a Jewish survivor and business owner, the cast also boasts a well depicted Hitler and his top brass. The entire cast complimented with tasteful cameo appearances, subtitles, and fluent French and German languages are outstanding. This is definitely one of Tarantino’s most entertaining films to date.
To be fair, you do not need to be a WWII buff to take into context Tarantino’s fantasy. It is quite simply entertaining and pulls at your nerves in classic fashion.
Available on DVD and Blu-Ray December 15th, the Special Edition 2-disc set will be an excellent addition to your “classic cult movies” of all time.
