Jay Leno Tonight Show: Part II (Team Conan!)

Jay Leno The Tonight Show, Part II?

After all this drama, it looks like Jay Leno will get The Tonight Show back.

Conan O’Brien released a statement earlier today saying that he basically wants out of The Tonight Show after NBC basically gave him the shaft. And can you blame him?

It is looking more and more like Conan will be teaming up with FOX for his own late night show that will air from 11:00pm – 12:00am, although nothing has been confirmed.

What a complete joke! I, for one, am on Team Conan, as I feel he was tossed around like a ragdoll with complete disregard to his family, his staff and his career.

Whose team are you on? Team Jay or Team Conan?

I’m with ya! Conan is actually FUNNY and makes me laugh. I can’t say the same for Jay. His popularity continues to elude me. Him and George Lopez should join forces.

    Conan all the way!

But isn’t Jay Leno actually on Team Conan too? I thought he had spoken publicly against NBC for the way they treated Conan.

I’m Team Conan. I may not be a fan of his particular sense of humor, or more so how he deliveries it, probably… I do think he’s getting royally screwed on this one. Jay knew six years ago that he was going to be losing his spot in the chair of The Tonight Show. Hell, he’s the one that decided 2009 would be a good year for him to retire. He got cold feet, tried his own primetime show and it didn’t work out. This is after we spent a year saying goodbye to Jay, and his final TTS episode with all the kids and the peope who’ve worked for him, blahblahblah. Conan doesn’t even have an ass mark in his chair yet, he’s been there such a short time and now Leno’s getting his job back. It’s just insane. If NBC thinks all of Leno’s old fans are going to come right back and he’ll once again kick Letterman in the ratings night after night, they’re insane. There have to be plenty of people left with an incredibly ugly taste in their mouth after all of this. I hope Leno continues to flop. I hope his ratings continue to decline. I hope Conan gets a job elsewhere and whoops his ass, and makes fun of NBC every single night for being such unbelievable douchebags. I hope they give this a try and rather than it being the success they were hoping for, it turns around to bite them in the butt and Jay ends up having to give some sort of farewell speech after failing miserable to recapture what he once had. It just sickens me to see the same network that once brought us Friends, Seinfeld, Will & Grace, Mad About You and so many others treat their talent and their audience with such disregard. Absolutely disgusting.

Yeah, I tend to ramble. Sorry ’bout that. :)

Team Conan! Just because Jay failed his slot doesn’t mean Conan needs to move over like Jay’s bitch. I guarantee I’ll follow Conan long before I watch Jay again. Never really was a fan in the first place!

Amy – awesome, well-written comment, not rambling at all.

CONAN, CONAN, CONAN! I can’t wait to see the funny material that will come out of this on his new show later.

It HAS to be Team Jay! HE is a man with class and has proved himself over many years in the late night slot. Conan is disgusting — with all his facial and body antics — he acts like a spoiled child AND he is NOT funny. His sidekick Andy is even more childish. The Tonight Show has a long history of classy entertainers and everyone looks forward to it after the evening news. Now you have to turn over to Letterman for any entertainment. Jay was sorely missed. Conan should NEVER have been given that timeslot. He does not have what it takes to carry it. Perhaps a Saturday AM sitcom — where the audience is more his peers. Definitely not Fox! Jay in — Conan out. Thankfully this time has come.

Team Conan! When I worked 2nd shift I’d come home and watch Conan, he always made me laugh. I haven’t watched him the last few years I’ve been on 3rd shift…but I totally would if I could!

I’ve actually always been Team Letterman, but if I had to choose, definitely Team Conan. Jay Leno just seems like a complete ass.

  • Baby Boomer for Mr O’Brien

I don’t think Jay VOLUNTARILY agreed to step down in 2009. I think NBC tried to keep Conan from jumping ship five years back by promising him the seat if he stayed put. They ASSumed Jay would be ready to retire by then and they knew the younger audiences preferred Conan. They didn’t count on Jay still being #1 in 2009 and they didn’t count on the fact that Jay is a workhorse who wasn’t ready to retire. They tried the lame experiment to try to keep Jay from jumping to another network and going head to head against Conan. Obviously, the plan completely backfired. While I like Jay and while I feel sorry for Jay, Conan should retain the spot. He’s the face of the future. Conan is smarter, funnier and hipper. NBC will really regret it if they let him go. I’m a female Baby Boomer and I’ll follow him elsewhere. There’s no question that people younger than me will. Conan is as edgy and amusing as Letterman, but he’s a nicer, classier guy. (I didn’t like all of his characters from the later show – the M Bear comes to mind :( , but he has toned it down a bit for the time slot. Bottom line: The guy was a writer on the Simpson’s. He’s a Harverd grad. He has amazing comic timing. He’s gracious. He’s self depreciating and he’s funny as heck. Sorry Jay. I do like you a lot, but count me in the Team Conan corner. .

One more thought, Conan was set up to fail. The local NBC affiliates were screaming for NBC to pull Jay’s 10:00 show because THEIR ratings were tanking. People who say that Jay left The Tonight Show in the #1 spot and that the ratings are down since Conan took over are ignoring the fact that Jay was following a much more successful NBC 10:00 program. Conan is taking the second swipe at the jokes about the day’s events and he’s doing so with a much weaker lead in. The comparison between the Jay Leno Tonight Show ratings and the Conan O’Brien Tonight Show ratings is not an apple to apple comparison. Conan should be given a fair shot. He’s comic gold. My 20 year old son and I agree on this and we are rarely insync in our entertainment choices. That has to count for something. My 80 year old Dad misses Jay, but, to be honest, he rarely stays up to watch either show. NBC, wise up and try to fix this HUGE mess you’ve made!

I think you mean; team Jay or team Conan, right? :)

Team Conan for sure! I have always loved him, no matter the time slot and I have to say the shows the last couple of days have been even funnier… he’s hilarious when he’s angry :] I just hope he goes somewhere so I can continue to watch him for a long time to come. I actually used to be a fan of Jay’s too but not after all this… who fails and gets rewarded by getting his old job back.. whatever. … I wish they could find a way to get Conan and Craig on the same network… now that would be funny right there.
