Dr. Conrad Murray
Dr. Conrad Murray has been officially charged with involuntary manslaughter regarding the death of Michael Jackson.
Murray, a Houston cardiologist, administered Jackson numerous drugs intravenously just before his death. He claims he was treating the pop star’s insomnia. Jackson died June 25th, 2009.
If convicted, Murray faces up to four years in prison. He is expected to plead not guilty.
I am curious to hear your opinion on this, Smackaholics. Do you think Dr. Conrad Murray is to blame for the death of Michael Jackson? Or do you think it was ultimately Jackson’s fault for being addicted to the drugs in the first place?
I tend to believe that Dr. Murray should be held responsible for his actions. He obviously WAY over medicated Michael. I have never heard of anyone being administered such an insanely powerful combination of drugs simply for insomnia. It’s a ridiculous story and I am not buying it. Michael was addicted to drugs, and most likely paid Dr. Conrad Murray some good coin to keep him extremely sedated. I am sick and tired of these celebrity docs getting away with prescription abuse. Hell, I have had numerous surgeries in the past 5 years and can barely get enough Percocet prescribed to get me through the healing process. Celebrities often times have a pill for whatever ails them, it is prescription abuse and should be dealt with as such.
The Jackson’s are expected to attend Dr. Murray’s arraignment today.

I agree he should be held responsible. It is bad enough that many people are addicted to both prescription and non-prescription drugs, but if they had no one to over-prescribe them, there might not be as many unnecessary deaths. The Dr. is no different than a street drug dealer (with the exception of a degree and license)…if anything, he is MORE AT FAULT, because with his knowledge and expertise, he should know better!! Shame on him!
I’m disturbed by the concept it’s someone’s ‘fault’ they are an addict. Actually, it’s not, it’s genetic. That said, Dr. Murray should absolutely be held responsible. You don’t prescribe anesthetics to help someone with insomnia. You don’t use Propofol outside of a hospital setting. You need to know how to administer an anesthetic and also monitor the patient the entire time they are on it as Propofol can slow breathing and the heart. Murray was out making phone calls while his patient was on an anesthetic he shouldn’t have been on anyway. CPR was incorrectly administered. Then, the doctor staged a scene in front of Michael’s son by pumping his chest when he was already dead and by getting the ambulance to continue CPR long after he’d passed. He also got rid of the evidence by shipping Propofol to his ex and fled the scene. Are those the actions of a man who is ‘not guilty’? I think not. I am not only shocked it took 7 months to charge him, but I’m sad the judge has thus far ruled that he can keep his license but can’t administer anesthetics anymore. This is massively wrong, and I can’t help but think if it was any other celebrity, this would have been handled far better.
