Will Howard Stern replace Simon Cowell on American Idol?

Howard Stern, the controversial radio host, just might be replacing Simon on American Idol. Stern himself has confirmed the news.

Stern, whose $500 million, 5-year contract with Sirius radio is up this year, says that if American Idol will pay him $100 million to “judge a karaoke contest” that he will quit radio and become the new judge for American Idol.

Stern told his Sirius listeners:

“If I do say do myself, I can’t imagine anyone else but me replacing (Cowell). I mean, I don’t know. How else are they going to make that show work? Who knows how to broadcast and who knows how to be interesting? And who’s not afraid to speak their mind?

“It would be the best thing that happened to me. What a cush job. $100 million for four months. Who wouldn’t take that?”

So either Stern is 100% serious about this, or he is playing head games with Sirius, who is due to renew his contract at the end of the year. At this point we can’t be sure. As much as I would LOVE Howard to replace Simon on American Idol (because I might just actually watch it then) I am not going to hold my breath.

We discussed this on my Ustream last night and as one of you said, what a combination of judges if Stern did in fact become the judge. Can you imagine Howard Stern AND Ellen together?! I say, pure awesomeness! Bring it on!
