The popular 60’s sitcom Gilligan’s Island is set to hit the big screen.
The studio and production company have begun development on a feature film based on the iconic CBS sitcom, which generated solid ratings during its three seasons between 1964 and 1967 and then found something close to eternal life in syndication. [Variety]
Producer Charles Roven is excited about the project. He told Variety: “The characters are so good. We think it’s going to be a great story to transport these cultural icons to the modern day,”
I disagree. I don’t even want to see these characters converted into modern day characters. Will the men have cell phones and the women fake boobs? It’s just not meant to be “modernized”. I am really getting tired of Hollywood remaking everything! As you know, I have been ranting about this subject a lot lately. Damn near every day you hear of another upcoming remake that will never touch the original.
Sorry guys, but there is no substitute for the original cast. You can’t redo a classic.

Agreed…it just wouldn’t be the same…let’s leave true classics as just that..and one of a kind!
What gave that show it’s charm was that it was slapstick humor, which isn’t done anymore because it was a throw back to vaudeville, It’s a dead style of humor now and making GI into what a drama or a straight comedy without the sightgags and physical humor it’s really a sad story of an inept tour guide and hopeless deckhand and people stranded on an island with unlimited clothing, for a 3 hour tour. The producers should be ashamed and then shot.
So agree with you? Cell phone trackers would find them within a day of them being lost. It’s ridiculous to think they would be lost for years. There is no Gilligan but Bob Denver..nor Tina Louise as Ginger. The never ending wardrobe for a 3 hour tour.
All I can see is them casting Steve Carrell as Gilligan. Instant vomit….and Will Farrell as the Skipper…blech
