Peter Steele Dead at 48-years-old
Peter Steele of the band Type O Negative is dead at the age of 48.
Band manager Mike Renault confirmed Steele’s death saying the Type O Negative singer/bassist died of heart failure. He added that he did not have any further details.
Steele, born Petrus Ratajczyk, stood a towering 6’7″.
The band’s record label, SPV/Steamhammer Records, released the following statement:
“It’s with great sadness that we give our condolences to the family and friends of Peter Steele. He died on April 14th, 2010. With his bands Carnivore and Type O Negative he achieved cult status and was loved by fans around the world. The world has lost a charismatic frontman and a very talented person. Our condolences go to Peter’s family, friends and the members of his bands.”
Oddly enough, Steele somewhat faked his death in 2005 – a publicity stunt to promote a new album. An image with a tombstone with his name on it and the dates 1962-2005 were posted on the band’s website just long enough to create a buzz. Unfortunately this time it’s no stunt. R.I.P. Peter Steele.

48?!!? What the hell where you doing to your heart to die at 48? He was the ultimate groupie bait for many years, and had a rep of being a nice guy. Really sad to see someone go at 48!
The world is a much sadder place now a true legend and special individual has departed…My most heartfelt condolences to his family,band mates,and friends….I only had the privilege to see him one time live and though he seemed a bit under the weather he made the show unforgettable…I will never forget you Petrus…I will miss you terribly as will so many others…Your music was like a healing balm on my broken soul..God bless you R.I.P Good sir
