Gerald Imes, the brother of Mo’Nique who molested her as a child, went on Oprah to discuss the childhood abuse that took place 37-years ago.

Imes appeared on Oprah Monday to apologize for the molestation that he put his sister through. He said: “It happened. I’m sorry that I was the one who did it to you. I understand your pain. Now let’s share this together.” The abuse happened when Imes was 13 and Mo’Nique was 7 or 8. He says the sexual abuse happened for more than a year.

Mo’Nique refused to be interviewed for the show but did give her OK for Oprah to interview Imes, whom she once labeled “a monster”. She told Oprah that if the story helped just one family it would be worth it.

Imes said he wants to apologize in an effort to bring his broken family back together. “I abused and betrayed the trust of another sibling, my sister, my blood sister. I’m sorry, Mo’Nique. I’m sorry.”

“I can only hope by coming forward that somewhere down the line, with the apology and the truth finally coming out after 37 years. That as siblings, we can come back together as brother and sister.”

Imes also admitted to being sexually abused as a child which led him to use drugs at the age of 11.

Many years later Imes served 12-years in prison for crimes unrelated to his sister. He admitted to molesting two people in all.

Do you believe him? Only two victims? I have a hunch those are only the two who came forward. There are most likely more. Why, now after all these years, is he interested in apologizing and bringing his family back together? The answer seems obvious. Because his sister is highly successful now…and because he got to go on Oprah.

I could be wrong of course, but I’m not buying it. It seems there is an ulterior motive here. Sad.

Why did he wait all this time to come forward. Also wasn’t their a question about her parents not believing her?
