Lane Bryant Ad “Too Risque” for ABC?

Lane Bryant ad refused air play by ABC

ABC is not fat friendly.

And I hesitate to say “fat” because really, the model in this supposedly “controversial” Lane Bryant television ad is not “fat”.

Lane Bryant says that ABC refused to air the above ad during Dancing with the Stars because there was too much cleavage and it was too risque. FOX also initially refused to air the ad during American Idol. It did, however, air size-zero models in a Victoria Secret ad.

What B.S. First of all, damn near every commercial out there has sex selling something. It could be a loaf of fricking bread and there will be the suggestion that if a man serves that bread during a romantic dinner, he will get laid by the woman he is serving it to. Right? Secondly, and ABC I can only HOPE you are reading this, have you guys seen the outfits that some of the women wear on Dancing with the Stars?? Totally revealing! Remember Pamela Anderson’s draping white gown with the massive slit up the entire side of the dress?? Please, ABC. It seems to be they are discriminating against women with fuller figures.

A Lane Bryant executive spoke about the “controversial” ad saying: “The cleavage of the plus-size models, they said, was excessive, and we don’t think that’s the case. It certainly appears to be discrimination against full-sized women.”

I would have to agree.

After the ad was pulled, Lane Bryant posted the ad on it’s website.

FOX changed it’s mind after Lane Bryant pointed out the Victoria’s Secret advertisements that were running in the same time slot.

The executive added: “They wouldn’t run the ad, but have you seen the Victoria’s Secret spots? If you saw the Victoria’s Secret spot and our spot, you’d see nothing different.”

Still, FOX claims no wrongdoing. “We didn’t treat them any differently than Victoria’s Secret,” a Fox spokesperson said.

What’s your opinion? Is ABC being hypocritical? Or do you think they were right to reject the ad?

They are soooo wrong! The woman has curves so they are finding that more seductive? Yet the Victoria Secret commercials show them basically wearing g-strings, if I am not mistaken…

  2. Michelle says:

I would rather see this beautiful woman on my tv screen then the size zero skeletons they normally put on there. She is Stunning! What a shame about the discrimination!

  3. Rachael says:

They are TOTAL hypocrites! These are not nasty ass fattys with rolls and rolls of blubber walking around in teeny weenie lingerie. These are shapely, beautiful women who happen to be bigger than the stick thin VS models.

  4. Lindsey says:

Bigger women = bigger boobs = more cleavage = more to reveal = more revealing than Victoria’s Secret. Non-skeletal women can’t help it that they’re damn sexy!

  5. Sylvia says:

First of all the pictures you are showing if that is what Lane Bryant was showing that is nothing compared to VS. Second has the network seen the Victoria Secret ad’s, I mean have they really seen it, VS shows way too much. The outfits from VS are extremely skimpy compared to what LB is showing.

  6. Lauren says:

Wow this is bull. What’s wrong with having too much clevage? Only if ur a size 0? isn’t that what bras are for? These commericals are important for women who need to wear a size bigger than a D. Besides the fact that VS exists to make people who small boobs feel better about themselfs because they always tell women they are a size bigger than they are, it makes me laugh. God only knows what they would tell me. I hope I see this commerical in the future.

  7. Eileen says:

I AM ABSOLUTELY APPALLED BY THEIR BEHAVIOR! THE VS ADDS ARE SO MUCH WORSE WHEN IT COMES TO BEING “RISQUE”! I’M DEFFINITLY NOT GOING TO BEING WATCHING ANYTHING THAT THEY HAVE TO PROMOTE AGAIN! I FEEL OFFENED!

  8. DonkeyPunch101 says:

LOL. You’re just calling discrimination because you’re a big fatty fat-fat.

Put down the fucking comfort Twinkies, go to a gym, and then maybe we’ll want to hear you out.

  9. DonkeyPunch101 says:

Also, my favorite part about this, is that when browsing this site ALL of the ads with people in them, feature size zero models.

    Nice.

  10. Spicy says:

Donkey Cunt: I could outrun or out bike you ANY day of the week. Not fat at all. Losers like you live in their mothers basement and eat microwavable mac n’ cheese. :)

  11. Rainne says:

This is completely discrimination against plus-size people. Five hundred pounds may not be attractive but neither is it when people look like holocaust victims or anorexics.

P.S. Hey DonkeyCunt why don’t you bring your flapping mouth over here to my house and let me put my big fatty fat twinkie eating boot up your ass?

  12. JD says:

I must agree…I WOULD MUCH RATHER SEE THESE MODELS HALF DRESSED in a commercial than those TOOTHPICK THIN Victoria Secret models…these ladies are more sexy and definitely hotter :) I give MUCH PROPS to Lane Bryant!!! Keep running these kinds of commercials PLEASE! :) Its about time they ran one like this….its long over due :P …yes…definitely discrimination against plus size models….

  13. Renee' says:

Absolutely discrimination! The ad is LESS risque than many of the zero size model ads. How many times have we seen Victoria Secret models in strings on prime time TV? This woman is a NORMAL size….and she is beautiful! I would rather see regular size women instead of anorexic twiggy size women. I am appalled that ABC refused to air this ad. Apparently it is OK to be nearly naked on TV if you are Barbie…not a real woman. Shame on them!

  14. Darcy says:

The fact that ABC finds voluptuous women too seductive to be put on screen is, to me, a compliment. Real sexy women don’t need lighting and push up bras- just look at the clarity of this Lane Bryant commercial. Real women, 1: anorexic media, 0.

  15. Jae says:

Clearly the networks are up in arms because the T and A are real instead of plastic.

  16. Adrian says:

Although my wife is shorter than the model, she’s built just like her, and I for one, would love to see more women built this way in fashion advertising, and on TV in general.

It does seem as thow these stations are discriminating based on weight, and I defy any of these execs to call a woman like this “Fat” when I’m nearby.

  17. Papi Chulo says:

I just want to know who the hell told women that men like skeletons just like the VS models?…That baby in the ad is sooo yummi mmmm!

Size 0 is like doing it with a dude…lol

  18. Dani Hen says:

I am not surprised at the discrimination but I certainly believe thats what this is beyond a doubt. There is no other logical explanation. Of course a plus sized model who is proportion correctly will have more cleavage because a DD is bigger than an A, duh! Funny they will air commercials for 18 hour support bras where women are complaining about how difficult it is to lift the puppies up and to get hte right fit. But a commerscial that celebrates curves and real women cannot air. So Pamela Anderson can get implants up the wazoo and thats fine but a woman who is au natural must hide her sexiness in a cloak of darkness. i think not we are all women and we are all beautiful all the time and on all channels. I am sure some board room jerk who hasn’t gotten any good loving in years made this decision

  19. WB says:

I think I would like to meet some of these women leaving comments.

  20. MISS C says:

SOUNDS TO ME LIKE DISCRIMINATION OR MAYBE A LITTLE FEAR FROM VS OF SOME REAL COMPETITION. I’VE HAD ALOT OF “CLEAVAGE”SINCE 10 YRS. OLD AND HAVE NEVER BEEN ASHAMED OR EMBARRESSED ABOUT BEING A PLUS SIZE. AND WHEN UR SINGLE IF U REALLY WATCH; MOST MEN, NOT ALL, GO OUT WITH THE SKELETONS, BUT THEY MARRY AND REALLY PREFER THE FULLER WOMAN I’M DISGUSTED WITH ALL THIS ‘u must measure like a Barbie doll crap…I’M A 62 YR. OLD GREAT GRANDMOTHER AND WITH ALL ELSE THAT IS SHOWN TODAY ON T.V. WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?
U CAN’T STRADDLE THE FENCE-IF U SHOW ONE THEN SHOW OTHERS AND BE FAIR ABOUT IT..

  21. Justin says:

Don’t take DonkeyCunt personally ladies… As far as I’m concerned boys like him can keep chasing after stick figures. Better to leave the curves of a real women for all us real men.

  22. saywhattawhattawho? says:

I’m glad you brought up the outfits on Dancing with the Stars… Whether or not the commercial was comparable to “Victoria’s Secret”, the ballroom outfits are scandously revealing, and yet DWTS presents itself as a ‘family’ show. So… are we teaching the kids that our bodies are inherently shameful? How is that going to impact their self-esteem?

  23. Connie says:

The ads for Lane Bryant should run. Such a typical reaction by ABC. The average woman doesnt look like the models on VS commercials they look more like the women in Lane Bryant. Full Figure is in. Get over it ABC.
