Pat Benatar talks about Between Heart and a Rock Place
Pat Benatar has penned a memoir, Between a Heart and a Rock Place, and it hits shelves Tuesday, June 15th.
Benatar, one of the leading rock ladies of the 1980′s is best known for songs like Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Love is a
Battlefield and Hell is for Children.
Benatar says she got the name, Between a heart and a Rock Place from a friend some time ago who suggested the title - in case she ever write an autobiography. Benatar says she never forget it. So when it came time to name her book she used that exact title, she says, because it was “perfect”.
Benatar describes life on top in the 80′s rock world:
“This character that was my persona on stage, it was something that I created. It was something that I thi
nk I was feeling, that a lot of American women were feeling. We were the daughters of the Women’s Movement. You know, we were going to be the young ones that were going to put this into practice. Being able to display your sexuality openly was a form of power. The unfortunate thing that happened is that, when, I got tired of it. The record company, the marketing people and everything, they had found a niche’ and they were reluctant to let that go.”
