Tommyland by Tommy Lee
So when someone recommend I read Tommy Lee’s Tommyland I got right on it.
I will admit, going into it, I thought Tommy Lee was obnoxious, full of himself, and I’ll be honest here, a dick. But of all those things, he’s really only obnoxious. Heh.
Tommy lays it all on the table in his book Tommyland. He talks about his past marriages to Heather Locklear (they divorced after a porn star gave Tommy a BJ and Heather heard about it, almost immediately) and Pamela Anderson (how they met is quite the entertaining story), the infamous sex tape with he and Anderson (Tommy insists they did NOT release it, someone stole a safe from their home which contained jewelry, cash and unfortunately, the sex tape), his time in jail for spousal abuse (he kicked Pamela in the rear during a fight and she milked it for all it was worth. Tommy’s time in jail may be the best part of the entire book, in my opinion), his family (his mother, a beauty queen from Greece, spoke no English when she married his father), and of course his children whom he calls his little “monkeys”.
I think I fell in love with Tommy while reading this book. He’s actually a very gentle soul. He absolutely adores women – women of ALL shapes and sizes, y’all! At the beginning of the book Tommy Lee gives sex advice to his fans. It’s downright hysterical! To his male fans he says this, “don’t hate on big girls.”
“Big girls are the hottest, craziest f***s ever. I’m talking about big girls – and I don’t mean tall. They are a screaming, f***ing crazy hot, big yummy time, trust me. Big girls need love too, so be there for them bros, and be prepared for them to go f***ing nuts on you. I hate dudes who hate on big girls. Don’t hate on any girl because she’s anything. She’s a girl, dude. I’m proud to say that this Doctor doesn’t discriminate. The girls in my life have come in all shapes and sizes.”
And for any women looking to impress Tommy, wear Gardenia. He admits it makes him crazy. (Sorry though, ladies. I think Tommy is hooked up right now!) I just love all the little tidbits we learn about “big, bad” Tommy in the book.
The overall theme of the book is Tommy’s love for music. A self taught drummer, he tells his life story and paints an amazing picture of what drumming has done for him and what it means to him. It’s everything to Tommy Lee.
What I loved about this book is that it showed me the softer side of Tommy Lee. Tommy is a truly considerate, caring, gentleman at heart. He actually cares about his fans and isn’t wrapped up in all that rock star bullshit that so many musicians are. Not only did the book teach me this, but I actually tweeted Tommy (@MRTOMMYLAND) on Twitter and told him I loved his book, not thinking I would ever, in a million years, get a response from him. But I was wrong. I got up the next morning and found that he had written me back saying, “its a fun read! Glad yer diggin it!”
And dig it I did. I think you will too, whether or not you’re a fan of Tommy Lee or Motley Crue. Check out TOMMYLAND, you too may just fall in love with Tommy Lee.
UPDATE: Thank YOU Tommy Lee for commenting on this post! Yes kids, he REALLY did. Told you he was cooler than shit…
