Jackie Evancho, 10-Year-Old Opera Singer [VIDEO]

Jackie Evancho, 10-year-old opera singer

Wow. Just wow.

10-year-old Jackie Evancho is an amazing opera singer despite her age. When you watch her it’s almost in disbelief. Can that voice be coming from that little girl?

Jackie Evancho auditioned for NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” via YouTube where she garnered more votes than any other contestant online. And you can see why!

Evancho’s song of choice Tuesday night was the Puccini aria “O Mio Babbino Caro.”

Jackie Evancho hails from the Pittsburgh area, and will most likely never have to worry about a career or money. The control she has over her voice at such a young age is absolutely astounding. Does anyone else on the show actually have a chance? Might as well call it a season!

Go Jackie!

This brought tears to my eyes. It reminded me of our daughter, Heidi, who also had the voice of an angel. Unfortunately, she passed away five years ago from colon cancer at the age of 40 years. I am now 70 years old and my better half is just 8 years behind me, but we will wish this young 10 year old the best of the best. May God Bless Jackie! Amen.

She truly has a gift, but it’s odd to see a woman’s voice come out of a child. I think no matter what she will end up being a world class operatic star. I really had to look twice to convince myself what I was watching was real. Pretty amazing for only 2 years of singing, most people spend their lives trying to sing like that.

she sings like an adult after 2 years of singing. Tons of girls my age have been singing like 7
    i’m her age

She is amazingly gifted, but I really worry that she is singing too much and too soon. Singing opera arias at this age and pushing her voice trying to sound like an adult (unless it’s her natural sound) could be harmful to young not yet developed vocal cords.

There are two examples. One is Charlotte Church who had promise as a child (though Jackie is considerably more talented and has better technique), but who wrecked her voice by singing arias at a young age and trying to fake adult vibrato (by vibrating her chin). She can now only sing pop, if she tries to sing classical the vocal problems she has become apparent.

Another example is one of the best opera sopranos of all times, Beverly Sills. Beverly Sills performed from ages of 3 to 10, after which she took a break until the age of 16. You can easily find her video at 8 on you tube. (search for Beverly Sills at 8).

So Jackie can either become a great opera star or she can hurt her voice or she can choose another route e.g. Julie Andrews and become a Broadway/movie star. Time will tell. But I really hope she takes care of the wonderful gift she has.
