Harold Dow Cause of Death Likely Asthma

Harold Dow’s cause of death may be a severe asthma attack.

“48 Hours” correspondent Harold Dow died suddenly this weekend at the age of 62.

On Saturday Harold Dow checked himself into a hospital after suffering “severe” asthma symptoms. Later an asthma inhaler was discovered on the floor of his car leading his family to come to the conclusion that he may have have had an asthma attack on his way to the hospital.

Dow’s cause of death has not been officially announced.

Dow had recently told co-workers we was retiring but had planned on doing a handful of special reports later this year.

“48 Hours Mystery” executive producer Susan Zirinsky says of Harold Dow: “I deeply miss him already. He was the most selfless man I have known. It was his humanity, which was felt by everyone he encountered, even in his toughest interviews, that truly defined the greatness of his work.”

Colleague Peter Van Sent also had fond memories of his friend. “Harold could do it all. His range left me in awe. Harold could talk to anyone from Presidents to pimps, rock stars and accused murderers. He was the kind of man who could make you feel in minutes like you’d known him for year.”

CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus says Dow will be dearly missed. “The CBS News family has lost one of its oldest and most talented members,” he said. “His absence will be felt by many and his on-air presence and reporting skills touched nearly all of our broadcasts.”

Harold Dow has won five Emmys and a Peabody Award in his lifetime and has been recognized for his outstanding work since the 1970′s.

Dow leaves a wife, Kathy, and three children, Joelle, Danica and David.

Rest in peace, Mr. Dow.
