Derek Jeter Hit By Pitch [VIDEO]

Derek Jeter hit by pitch? Um, no.

Derek Jeter faked like he was hit by a pitch in a game against the Tampa Bay Devil Ray’s Wednesday night.

He deserves an Oscar for this performance. No, Derek Jeter did not get hit by a pitch, but he sure fooled umpires, and they called it as so. Slow motion video later showed that Derek did NOT get hit by the pitch, but in the heat of the moment Derek took it and ran with it. To first base, that is. But not before he danced around holding his arm, had the medics examine the limp extremity, and put on a hell of a show.

What really sucked was that Ray’s manager Joe Maddon was ejected from the game because he knew Derek Jeter was not hit by the pitch. To make matters worse, the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays are neck and neck in the race in the division race. Do what you gotta do to win? Or cheating Fakey McFakerton? I’ll go with the latter.

i’m biased as a yankee fan, but if the situation was reversed, one of the rays would have done the same thing. Basketball players do it all the time during games.

tho it goes to show what power jeter’s reputation has. i think any other player the umps would have overturned the call. but no harm, no foul for the rays since they ended up winning the game.

I love Derek Jeter and I am so disappointed in him. “Do-what-you-have-to-do-to-win” should mean extra work outs, better equipment, more practice, whatever… but not cheating. Taking steroids is cheating–what Derek did is just a much milder form of cheating. And if it’s standard practice, the standards should be raised. Sports is something that our young focus on and I think it stinks that we show them that cheating (even just a little ) is OK and even encouraged.
