Sally Menke, Film Editor, Found Dead
Sally Menke, a longtime film editor for Quentin Tarantino, was found dead after spending the day hiking with her dog.
Sally Menke decided to go for a hike in the sweltering heat with her dog and a hiking partner Monday morning and never returned. Concerned friends contacted authorities around 4:00 pm when she failed to return home. A rescue effort began. Police officers, search dogs, family, friends, and an LAPD helicoptor aided in the search.
Menke’s vehicle was found parked and locked at a Griffith Park parking lot. Her body was finally discovered by rescuers Tuesday morning at about 2:00 am at the bottom of a ravine with her faithful dog by her side.
The hiking partner says that he decided to turn back after only an hour while Menke and her dog, a Labrador Retriever continued hiking.
Sally Menke’s death has not yet been determined and it’s not yet known if heat a contributing factor. She was 56.
Menke worked on numerous Quentin Tarantino films including “Kill Bill” and “Pulp Fiction.”
Having grown up in LA, you should know better than to be out in a heat wave. I really feel for this woman but it’s like walking on Mars and whatever the air temp is, it’s about 10 degrees hotter on the ground. It got to 116 on my patio, that is not hiking weather. I feel so awful she died like that, her poor dog watching her fall like that and staying with her. It’s really heartbreaking, she did an amazing job with Quentin’s scripts and will be missed.
A truly tragic story. A terrible, pointless loss.
