Arianna Forster, also known as ‘Ari Up’ of The Slits
Ari Up, real name Arianna Forster, of the punk band The Slits, has died at the age of 48.
Ari Up is not only one of the founders of The Slits, she is also the stepdaughter of Sex Pistols front man, Johnny ‘Rotten’ Lydon. Her mother is Nora Forster, a German heiress.
Although the cause of Ari Up’s death has not been confirmed, we hear it was cancer. Her death was announced on Lydon’s website, JohnLydon.com.
“John and Nora have asked us to let everyone know that Nora’s daughter Arianna (aka Ari-Up) died today (Wednesday, October 20th) after a serious illness. She will be sadly missed.”
Ari Up formed The Slits in 1976 along with Paloma Romero, Tessa Pollitt and Viv Albertine. She was only 14-years old. The Slits eventually split in 1981, but Ari Up continued to play music throughout her lifetime.
Up’s manager Jeff Jacquin posted on The Slits’ MySpace page: “She influenced generations of women and created some of the most memorable music of our time, but Ari’s true magic was how she affected people on the street, face to face, every day. She ate life up and spit it out.”
