Yes, I am cheering on the San Francisco Giants in the World Series.

Or maybe I’m just cheering on Brian Wilson’s beard.

How can you not? Well, as long as you’re not a Texas Ranger fan, that is.

Brian Wilson’s beard is quickly becoming an icon in 2010 American pop culture. Wilson reportedly started growing the beard mid-season and although it started out subtle, it has literally grown into quite the hairy phenomenon.

Does he dye it? Of course he does. Will he admit it? Not so easily. When asked it in a recent interview Wilson said: “It’s just dark because we play a lot of day games. It’s really tan. It’s just focused.”

More from Brian Wilson on the beard: “I think it was just something fun to do. Fans enjoy it. When fans enjoy it, you can feel the energy from them. I didn’t think it would take a life of its own. But fans come to the game, they get dressed up, they get amped up and they really put their heart and soul into cheering. And we feel it. We feel it from pitch one to the last one.”
