Matt Hughes of ‘Storm Chasers’ death
The untimely death of Matt Hughes, (‘Storm Chasers’, Discovery Channel) has shocked fans of the popular reality show.
Everyone is wondering, what was the cause of Matt Hughes’ death? Did he die doing what he loved – storm chasing? The answer is no. The Discovery Channel lists Matt’s death as stemming from an injury unrelated to ‘Storm Chasers.’
The Discovery Channel posted the following information on it’s ‘Storm Chasers’ section of it’s website:
Matt Hughes, a featured meteorologist on Storm Chasers passed away on May 26th, 2010 in Wichita, Kansas due to an injury unrelated to his chasing activities. Sean, Reed, Tim and everyone involved in Storm Chasers mourn the loss of their friend and colleague. Next Wednesday at 10pm, a special Storm Chasers episode called “Dedication” will feature Matt’s incredible last chase, and is dedicated to his memory.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Matt’s family, and we ask fans to kindly respect their privacy. A special memorial fund has been established to benefit Matt’s two young sons. Donations can be made to:

The upcoming special episode to honor storm chaser Matt Hughes’ memory (‘Dedication’) will air November 6th, Saturday, at 9:00AM and then again Wednesday, November 10th. In the follow-up episode, ‘Smoke Monster,’ the storm chaser team is forced to deal with Matt’s death.

UPDATE:
It has been learned that the death of Matt Hughes was a suicide. Matt Hughes reportedly had been drinking and hung himself. After paramedics arrived on the scene Matt was still breathing but sadly he died 13 days later. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
