Don Meredith a.k.a. Dandy Don
Former Dallas Cowboy quarterback Don Meredith, also known as Dandy Don, has died after suffering a brain hemorrhage.
Meredith, 72, died on Sunday after slipping into a coma. His wife said of him, “He was the best there was. We lost a good one.” She and her daughter were at his side when he died.
Don Meredith played for the Dallas Cowboys from 1960-1968, he became the starting quarterback in 1965. He was one of the team’s first stars. He threw for 17,199 yards and 111 touchdowns during his career.
Two years after retiring, Don Meredith worked in the broadcasting booth with Keith Jackson and Howard Cosell. In 1973 he left Monday Night Football for NBC, where he worked for three years. But in 1977 he returned to Monday Night Football, where he stayed until 1984.
