Elizabeth Edwards Dies of Cancer

Elizabeth Edwards dies at age 61

The estranged wife of ex-Presidential candidate John Edwards, Elizabeth Edwards, has died at the age of 61 after a long battle with cancer.

Elizabeth Edwards was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 and in 2007 she announced the cancer had spread to her bones. Just yesterday we reported that Elizabeth Edwards’ doctors advised her to discontinue cancer treaments after the cancer had spread to her liver.

Elizabeth Edwards posted on her Facebook page a thanks to all the people who supported her through her battle with cancer:

“The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that. And yes, there are certainly times when we aren’t able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like. It’s called being human. But I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that I am grateful.”

“It isn’t possible to put into words the love and gratitude I feel to everyone who has and continues to support and inspire me every day. To you I simply say; you know.”

Elizabeth Edwards’ estranged husband, John Edwards had an affair during Elizabeth’s cancer treatment and fathered a child with the other woman, Rielle Hunter. However, he and Elizabeth never legally divorced.

Elizabeth Edwards is survived by her three children. She will be met on the other side by her son, Wade, who died at the age of 16 in a car accident in 1996.

This is such a loss. She was an amazing woman and fought so hard to conquer this terrible disease. I am hoping she finally will have some peace now.
