Pete Sampras has trophies stolen
Needless to say, he is devastated.
Items stolen include Pete Sampras’ two Davis Cup trophies, his six year-end world number one trophies and an Olympic ring.
“My first Australian Open trophy is gone and so is everything else. Losing this stuff is like having the history of my tennis life taken away,” Sampras, 39, told the Los Angeles Times.
“I’m not one to gloat about trophies, or show them off. I’ve never been like that. I just want them for my kids to see. They didn’t see me play, but I would like them to see these things. For me to have it for my kids is priceless.”
“I thought there were security cameras. I thought these things were locked up tight. I was shocked.”
Pete Sampras says the theft occurred about three-weeks ago and the thieves not only got trophies of his, but various collectibles he has acquired over the years. Things like an Elton John autographed piano bench, a guitar signed by Carlos Santana, and numerous magazine/ newspaper articles spanning throughout his 12-year professional career.
Not knowing a value to place on his trophies, memorabilia and collectibles, Pete Sampras did not insure these sentimental items. He is desperate now, clinging to hope and is anticipating that somebody, somewhere, will have information leading to the whereabouts of these items.
“I just hope it hasn’t already been destroyed,” Sampras adds. “That’s why I wanted to get the word out now. I know this is a long shot, but I would regret it if I didn’t at least try. Maybe somebody knows something. That’s all I can hope for.”
What an awful thing to have happen. If you know anything about the disappearance of Pete Sampras’ personal items we recommend you make a phone call to the Los Angeles police department.
We wish you luck, Pete Sampras!
