Radar Online says TMZ paid a healthcare worker for privy information about Lindsay Lohan, violating HIPAA privacy laws.
Dawn Holland, the woman who was involved in an altercation with Lindsay Lohan at the Betty Ford Clinic, spoke with TMZ about the incident, going into detail about the scuffle and Lindsay’s (lack of) progress in rehab. Later that day she was fired from the Betty Ford Clinic for speaking with TMZ.
Now, RadarOnline.com is claiming that Dawn Holland told them that she was paid roughly $10,000 by TMZ for the interview which ended up costing her job.
Something we find odd is that Dawn Holland says she was paid $10,000 for an interview with TMZ, but then did one for “free” with RadarOnline.
Radar seems pretty adamant about TMZ violating federal laws and definitely wants to call attention to it because they would love nothing more than to see TMZ be prosecuted.
Some of the quotes from the article where RADAR put TMZ on blast:
- TMZ paid her at least $10,000 for an interview and photos of injuries – making the financial agreement while she was still a healthcare worker, in violation of federal law.
- Because she is a healthcare worker that agreement could put her and the website in violation of HIPAA laws and subject them (TMZ) to criminal prosecution.
- She said she was fired after she violated patient confidentiality by speaking to TMZ.
- It is not known whether she and/or TMZ will be criminally prosecuted.
- TMZ has not returned RadarOnline.com’s calls for comment.
So, I guess what this boils down to is….
Is Dawn Holland lying about being paid thousands for the interview by TMZ? Or is RADAR lying about Dawn Holland?
Did TMZ really pay the money? If so, this is a new low for them. Which isn’t shocking, nothing is sacred to them. Devastating death photos of celebrities, phone calls of horrific 911 calls involving deaths, and now confidential healthcare records? Where does it end?
Honestly, I think RADAR is just jealous of TMZ and that’s why they are doing their damnedest to call attention to this. Your thoughts?
I think you are totally right about this. Although I wouldn’t put it past TMZ to do this, I do think that Radar is jealous and trying to get them in trouble. Also, isn’t the head of TMZ a lawyer? He would know better (I think)…
