Singer-songwriter Teena Marie is dead at the age of 54-years old.

At the time not much is known about Teena Marie’s death. Her body was found by her daughter in bed. Teena had died in her sleep. Her manager Mike Gardner has confirmed her death.

Teena Marie was also known as Lady Tee in the music industry. Her given name was Mary Christine Brockert. In her career, she released thirteen albums. Her latest, Congo Square, was released in 2009.

When Teena Marie was 10 she sang at the wedding of Jerry Lewis’ son. She later became Rick James’ protegée and  in 1984 she released her best selling album, Starchild.  Starchild contained the biggest hit of Teena Marie’s career, “Lover Girl.”
