Ricky Gervais Golden Globes 2011 Host: Was he too wicked – or awesomely hilarious?

Some people are blasting Ricky Gervais for his performance as the Golden Globes 2011 host, saying he was “too mean” to celebrities, do you agree?

Some bloggers and writers are having a fit because Ricky Gervais had a sharp edge to his comedy during the Golden Globes. He made fun of celebrities, people who are used to having everyone give them everything they want. They are multi-millionaires who live plush lives, travel the world, own mansions, fly private planes and eat nothing but the best food. So PLEASE. I don’t want to hear ho Ricky Gervais ruined their night. Just think of it as a sort of Celebrity Roast – except there were many targets!

During the Golden Globes Ricky Gervais made fun of Cher, and how nobody wanted to go to a Cher concert since 1975, how the Sex and the City 2 special effects team should have been nominated for their massive photoshopping of the movie’s poster, and Ricky Gervais even called Bruce Willis ‘Ashton Kutcher’s dad’. HA! I think my favorite was Ricky Gervais’ advice to 24-year old Crystal Harris who is marrying 84-year old Hugh Hefner. “Just don’t look at it when you touch it!” (See the Golden Globes clip above and you’ll see what I mean!!)

But perhaps the most stinging comments made by Rick Gervais at the Golden Globes were aimed at the Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp film, The Tourist, a film that disappointed fans and critics alike. Gervais said of it: ”Everything this year was three-dimensional, except the characters in The Tourist. I feel bad about that joke. I’m jumping on the bandwagon, because I haven’t even seen that movie . . . . Who has?”

Next up, Eva Longoria has the daunting task of introducing the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press. That’s nothing. I had just had to help him off the toilet and pop his teeth in.

Also not nominated I Love You Phillip Morris. Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor. Two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay. So, the complete opposite of some famous Scientologist. My lawyers helped me with the wording of that joke…”

    i thought he was hilarious. and the golden globes should be the fun, boozy sibling of the uptight oscars. where everyone is drinking and having fun and not afraid to be so proper.

    I thought Ricky Gervais was hilarious! All this debate has just reminded me that we all need to be able to laugh at ourselves once in a while. He was dead on and didn’t say anything weren’t thinking anyway. LOVED IT!!!

    He was only poking fun of the obvious and truthful actions of the idiot celebrities in IDIOTVILLE (Hollywood). The celebridiots need to remove the sticks out of their tight asses and face the fact that they F***** up people are going to call them on it. This is what comedians do make fun of everything and everyone regardless whether it’s the good the bad and the ugly. Get over it Hollywood, The Foreign Press, Golden Globes and Celebridiots!!! I would watch ANY show Ricky hosted, but since he is banned from future hosting duties…well I guess I am thankfully saved from having to waste my time watching these garbage awards shows anyway. Thank you Ricky for saving me!!!

    I agree with you! He was so funny. I never laughed out loud so much at an awards show in my life. And I’ve seen many of them. And like I said on Twitter. He’s a comedian. That’s what he does.

    Those celebs should be happy someone is talking about .

    I do have to say that the HIFPA President did have a good comeback though. lol

    Most fun watching awards show ever. They’re commonly boring & at times downright painful as entertainment industry gushes over each other & acts as if they’re handing out Nobels. Gervais brought hilarity & served dose of humility to the “beautiful” people. His riffs were crazy good & yes at times over the line but great comedians do that. Thanks Ricky Gervais. Nite of boundless fun harder to come by these days. Tell hollywood elite to wash down nother xanax wth their vos, have their chef whip up some comfort food, call masseuse & stfu.

    I LOOOVED it!! He only said what everyone else in the world was thinking and for actors to come out and bitch about it need to get over themselves. My favorite was when he made fun of Hugh Hefner and his new “fiancee” Crystal Harris. I was dying of laughter!!
