Harry Connick Jr. Was Almost an American Idol Judge

Harry Connick Jr. would jump on the chance to be an American Idol judge.

And it almost was.

Harry helped mentor contestants last season of American Idol, and he says when the show was seeking new hosts producers approached him. “They asked me if I was interested in doing it, and I was interested. I had a blast on the show, and I like doing that stuff, you know. I just thought it was fun talking to these young people about singing and stuff.

“We had some preliminary conversations about judging, and it just kind of fizzled out, which is fine. I mean, had it materialised, it would have been a fun thing to do, but fortunately I’ve got some other things going, and that was fine.”

I know that I certainly would not mind seeing him on the show. Or any show for that matter.

Instead, new American Idol hosts are Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez and we’ll finally get our chance to check them out this week on the show’s premiere. It’s going to be interesting to see how the judges’ dynamics are. It’s going to be fabulous – or fail.
