Tool ‘Stinkfist’ [VIDEO]: I Love the 90′s!

Tool’s Stinkfist video, from the album, Ænima

We are going a little heavier than normal with today’s ‘I Love the 90′s!’ and we are bringing some Tool to the table.

Undisputedly one of the best albums of the 1990′s, Ænima, both fascinated and creeped us out.

“Stinkfist” was the first single off the 1996 album,  Ænima. Ænima was Tool’s second album, and like it’s predecessor, Undertow, radio and MTV had a little bit of a problem with the perceived subject matter of the songs. Although the name of the song, Stinkfist, would lead one to assume the song is about . . . well, c’mon, do I really need to explain it? However, as Maynard (lead singer of Tool) describes it, the song is open to interpretation.

Maynard on “Stinkfist”: “If you really look at it and really look at us and who we are, understand that we go a little deeper than some write-off song about fist-f—ing.”

Judge for yourself. Lyrics after the cut.

Like all Tool videos, the video for “Stinkfist” is brilliant. Eerie, captivating and visually enthralling. Way ahead of it’s time. Enjoy – and crank this one up!

Something has to change.
Un-deniable dilemma.
Boredom’s not a burden
Anyone should bear.

Constant over stimu-lation numbs me
but I would not want
You any other way.

Cause,
It’s not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I said,
I don’t want it.
I just need it.
To breathe, to feel, to know I’m alive.

Finger deep within the borderline.
Show me that you love me and that we belong together.
Relax, turn around and take my hand.

I can help you change
Tired moments into pleasure.
Say the word and we’ll be
Well upon our way.

Blend and balance
Pain and comfort
Deep within you
Till you will not want me any other way.

But,
It’s not enough.
I need more.
Nothing seems to satisfy.
I said,
I don’t want it.
I just need it.
To breathe, to feel, to know I’m alive.

Knuckle deep inside the borderline.
This may hurt a little but it’s something you’ll get used to.
Relax. Slip away.

Something kinda sad about
the way that things have come to be.
Desensitized to everything.
What became of subtlety?

How can this mean anything to me
If I really don’t feel anything at all?

I’ll keep digging till
I feel something.

Elbow deep inside the borderline.
Show me that you love me and that we belong together.
Shoulder deep within the borderline.
Relax. Turn around and take my hand.
