Matthew Weiner says Mad Men 5 still in negotiations.
Mad Men fans, you might want to have an Old Fashioned on hand when you hear this news.
Mad Men 5 has yet to renew, nor has the writing even started.
Mad Men creator Matt Weiner spoke to Entertainment Weekly at the Producer’s Guild Awards last weekend and told them that the show is essentially on hold until negotiations between AMC, Weiner and Lionsgate are completed. He adds that he’s “not looking for a new job.”
Weiner explains: “It’s one of the perils of success – everyone wants a piece of it now and they are fighting over who is gonna get the biggest chunk. Then they will come to me because talent is last. It would be heartbreaking for me if they don’t work it out, horrifying really. It would be a shame for fans to never get to see what great stuff we have planned for Don and company.”
Horrifying is right. But would AMC fail to renew the show if negotiations went through the floor? Could happen, but most likely not. They’d be fools not to make it work. There was so much going on in the life of Don Draper – and we are just finding out who he really is.
Quit teasing AMC, get it done!
