Britney Spears to be sued for Hold It Against Me?
Britney Spears’ new single, Hold It Against Me, might be too much like another song by the country group the Bellamy Brothers.
If Spears’ song is found to be too similar to the Bellamy Brothers 1979 hit, If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me? the group’s lawyers will advise the singers, David and Howard Bellamy, to take legal action on the base of plagiarism. The group originally said they had no plans to sue Britney Spears over the song, but their attorney’s say they may want to reconsider.
David Bellamy explains: “We will without doubt take the appropriate legal action if our attorneys agree we’ve been ripped off. Surely there is more original stuff out there to do rather than rehash old titles.”
Britney Spears’ lawyers have not yet been contacted by the Bellamy Brother’s legal team, but if they decide they have grounds to sue they will.
Do you think they have a case? I think it’s highly unlikely they’d win. The songs are nothing alike except for the title, and there are a gazillion songs out there with the same titles. Your thoughts?
