Survivor Redemption Island – Week 5 RECAP!

Survivor Redemption Island Episode 5, Recap

This week on Survivor Redemption Island, we had Christina vs. Matt battling it out for a chance to return to the game.

Matt, who already has two wins under his belt, came out on top in a puzzle building challenge, sending Christina off to burn her buff and leave Survivor for good.

Krista and Stephanie continued to separate themselves from their Zapatera tribe this week, both determined to join up with Ometepe and Boston Rob after a merge. After being given the chance to talk with Rob and Grant at Redemption Island (all four were selected to witness the face-off between Matt and Christina) , Krista and Stephanie straight up told Rob they were ready to flip and ZERO allegiance to their tribe.

Another interesting thing that happened on Redemption Island was Matt confronting Rob about voting him off first. As Matt worked on solving his puzzle in the race against Christina, he grilled Rob about voting him off, asking him: “Why did you vote me off?” After Rob didn’t reply Jeff re-asked the question. Rob finally answered, “It doesn’t take one person to vote someone out,” deflecting the blame to his tribe members.

The immunity challenge between Survivor tribes Ometepe and Zapatera was a maze/puzzle challenge where tribe members were blindfolded and directed by a “caller.” After completing the maze, another tribe member would solve a puzzle, and whichever team completed their puzzle first won the challenge.

Ometepe won the challenge after Stephanie failed to give her blindfolded tribemates good directions. David ended up having a meltdown over not being chosen to be the puzzle solver and insisted that he be the only one allowed to do puzzles in the future. Do I sense some serious drama with this guy in the near future? Absolutely!

Another alliance was formed this week, an unlikely duo, Andrea and Phillip. Since Matt’s departure, Andrea has been unable to form strong bonds with any of her tribe members and Phillip is desperate for someone to align himself with. Phillip told Andrea that if Matt comes back the three of them could be a force to be reckoned with. Andrea seemed genuinely interested. Could be the best move Phillip has made yet!

After the immunity challenge loss, Krista and Stephanie knew they were doomed but did absolutely nothing to try and sway their tribe’s vote. Knowing one of them would be going to Redemption Island but completely accepting their fate, they made it that much easier for Zapatera to vote one of them off.

Meanwhile, at Ometepe, the tribe was rewarded with donuts, muffins, coffee, sugar and cream after winning the immunity challenge. Grant, bless his gorgeous little heart, opened the coffee to find an immunity idol clue amongst the coffee grounds. Rob, being the observant one that he is, caught onto it and the two men had to find a way to read the clue privately. This meant them going their own ways. Rob took the clue (Grant might be pretty, but he is not the smartest!) as Grant went back to the tribe, and the two men met up later to discuss the contents. Rob took this opportunity to be brilliant – he took the new clue ad swapped it out with the old clue he had found. He knew the old clue was so vague it wouldn’t tip Grant off the the idol’s whereabouts. Of course no one knows Rob already has the idol, but he wants to keep it that way. Kudos on a ballsy move!

At tribal council, Krista and Stephanie were all talk. Accusing their tribe of not “playing the game” or having any sort of strategy. Mike stopped them in their tracks though, pointing out that the two ladies have done absolutely zero game play, as they have made no strategic moves whatsoever. Socially or otherwise. He also pointed out that the girls wouldn’t know if they had a strategy or not since they were never a part of their group.

Of the two evils, the tribe decided Krista was the worst and sent her off to Redemption Island where Matt is awaiting his next victim. Hopefully. I want to see Matt win this! If that kid can come back from weeks of winning on Redemption Island and get back in the game he will be a huge threat – especially to Boston Rob. Let’s just hope he can pull it off again next week against Krista!
