Survivor Redemption Recap for 3/23/2011
This week’s Redemption Island showdown was between Matt, who won his previous three battles to stay alive, and Krista, Stephanie’s sidekick from Zapatera.
Going into this competition, I think most fans were on the side of Matt. After having won three weeks in a row and being the first to be voted off this season’s Survivor, (for no good reason, either) Matt is likable, easygoing and sweet – not to mention cute as a bug. Krista, on the other hand, really had not done a lot to impress fans, and seemed to be riding on Russell and Stephanie’s coattails.
After a close battle (yet another puzzle competition, nothing physical) the longstanding winner pulled off another win. Matt wins the Redemption Island challenge once again!
Witnessing the Redemption Island battle this week were Andrea and Natalie from Ometepe, and Julie and Mike from Zapatera. Andrea, who once had a strong bond with Matt, was bothered by how well Matt and Krista got along during their short time on Redemption Island. She later told the cameras: “”Matt could be a huge threat,” leaving us to wonder, if Matt returns, will he and Andrea form an alliance – or not?
Back at camp we were blessed with watching Natalie plucking/clipping Ashley’s armpit hair, and hooray, Philip had more than just underwear on.

Speaking of Philip and Ashley, these two were at each other’s throats, mostly because Ashley doesn’t want to help around camp at ALL. You can’t really blame Philip, hauling wood, cooking, cleaning, preparing for things, it takes time and energy. Ashley and Natalie just sit around and do each other’s hair. Something tells me they applied to be on the wrong reality show.
This week’s immunity challenge involved balls and Lacrosse-like sticks and let me just say this challenge was right up Grant’s alley. He’s a former NFL player and it shows. He owned that game and ultimately helped his tribe to win.

Ometepe’s reward was a feast, atop the Jesus Mountain in Nicaragua. While eating, Rob spotted another immunity idol clue. Thinking on his feet, he decided to let someone else find it since he already has two idols. Better to let someone else find the clue and not get caught sneaking it. Grant ended up finding it, showed Rob, and the two went on a scenic walk. As Philip sensed, scenic walks on Survivor are generally meant for strategy talk, so he followed them. He confronted them and Rob told him they’d talk about it at camp. Philip was passive-aggressive about it, vowing to the cameras that he’d get his revenge.
Meanwhile, Zapatera tribe were focused on Sarita, who had been complaining about a tooth and was first to volunteer to sit out of the immunity challenge, was getting on everyone’s nerves. Stephanie, who knew she had to start campaigning, (finally) tried to convince her tribe members that she was the stronger player and that they would need her to win challenges. David campaigned for her as well, telling his team that winning challenges is more important than trust at this point in the game. Before tribal council Stephanie said: “If they don’t keep me they’re going to lose every single challenge,”
Sarita decided she was either too lazy or disinterested to campaign, she simply said: “I’m not going to campaign because I’m loyal.”
Say what? Is it just me or is this season full of non-players!? Booooorrrrring.

In the end, loyalty conquered over strength and Sarita and her poor, bleeding gums escaped Redemption Island. Stephanie, the last member of Russell’s mini-alliance, was headed to the island. What sucks about that is, no matter if you love her, or love to hate her, she’s good TV. It’d almost be a shame to lose her now – all the good “villains” are gone!
Who will win Redemption Island battle next week? Matt vs. Stephanie!
