Catharine Zeta-Jones Douglas pulls out of Swansea Bay International Film Festival after revolt by filmmakers
It was confirmed today that Catherine Zeta Jones Douglas has withdrawn her patronage from the Swansea Bay film festival after pressure from the filmmaking community over allegations that the festival was a rip off and the festivals organisers were mishandling the annual event
The festival Director, Mr Banda Singh who is a par time lecturer based in Swansea Wales, today confirmed in an interview with award winning film Director Tyrone D Murphy that Zeta Jones has pulled out of the event. A written statement announcing her withdrawal from the event will be issued tomorrow (13th April 2011) by Milkwood Films, Catherine Zeta Jones Douglas production company. This may be the final blow for the Swansea based festival as Zeta Jones departure comes just a week or so after another high profile actor; Michael Sheen also withdrew his support from the festival
Tyrone D Murphy is producing a hard hitting expose documentary on Scam Film Festivals and has united filmmakers around the World to tackle corrupt film festivals. Murphy said: “film festivals organisers must be transparent about the whole process and must divulge information to filmmakers submitting their films for consideration. To many film festivals are simply conning thousands of filmmakers out of millions of pounds for far too long”
Murphy interviewed Mr Singh at length and Mr Singh stated that Zeta-Jones pulled out of the event because of a campaign by the anti-festival brigade. Mr Singh has offered Tyrone D Murphy and his crew full access to the festival with cameras and conduct interviews with any of the filmmakers at the festival. Mr Singh blamed the mismanagement of the festival in past years on volunteer workers. Murphy said, “Mr Sing seems very plausible and even appears to be up front about the festival, however reports we have received from other filmmakers contradict Mr Singh’s version.
Tyrone D Murphy won best international film for his documentary “The Hollywood Graffiti Gown” in Lake Arrowhead Film Festival in California. He is the director and writer for the upcoming British gangster film “Mad Frankie Fraser” about Britain’s most notorious gangster. Murphy has a string of exposes under his belt including an IRA extortion Racket on a London solicitors firm and a £30 million bookmaking fraud. More recently he exposed a child pornography ring operating on the member’s web site forum of the famous media and celebrity club, the Groucho Club. The Groucho Club took a defamation action against Murphy in the UK High Court and later lost the case to Murphy who defended himself in the action
