Gerard Smith, 34, bass player for the band TV on the Radio, died on Wednesday after battling lung cancer.
Smith’s death was announced on the band’s official site. The remaining members of the band had this statement posted:
“We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer. Gerard passed away the morning of April 20th 2011. We will miss him terribly.”
Gerard Smith was diagnosed with lung cancer in March.
TV on the Radio just released their latest album, Nine Types of Light on April 12. The group has canceled it’s next five shows.
