Vancouver RIOTS in the city after Vancouver Canucks loss
The city of Vancouver has erupted in riots after the Vancouver Canucks lost to the Boston Bruins in the race for the Stanley Cup.
The game was played in Vancouver, B.C., and after a depressing 4-0 loss at home, fans on the streets of Vancouver began to riot. News of the reports hit the media around 8:30 p.m. PST. Fires in at least two parking garages were seen blazing on live TV and trees in one park were uprooted and set on fire. Numerous other small fires have been reported including burning cars. Several department store windows have been smashed out and looted and employees of MAC cosmetic store were spotted boarding windows. Vancouver police dressed in riot gear have dispensed tear gas, fired rubber bullets and flash bombs into the crowds in an attempt to control them, but to little avail.

Vancouver Canucks captain Henrik Sedin commented on the riot situation: “It’s terrible. This city and province has a lot to be proud of, the team we have and the guys we have in here. It’s too bad.” Vancouver police Const. Jana McGuinness was equally disturbed. “It’s just a huge disappointment for everyone to see this.
RIOT UPDATE: At the time we write this, there are rumors of a Boston Bruins fan being killed after he/she was pushed off a bridge or overpass by a Vancouver Canucks fan. Although news of this is running rampant on Twitter, I am finding no confirmed reports of this yet. Browsing Twitter I am also finding rumors of another Bruins fan being stabbed, but again, no confirmations.
UPDATE #2: I managed to find an alleged photo of the man stabbed by a Vancouver Canucks fan. Fans say he was stabbed in the neck. Still no confirmation though.
Vancouver police attempt to control the crowd when riots break out after July 15, 2011 Stanley Cup loss:
i apologize on behalf of my city, and i’m ashamed of these rioters who are not true fans. As i watched the news i was hoping that nobody was seriously injured or hurt during the chaos.
many of us have created a “clean up vancouver” facebook event which currently has over 4,000 volunteers and growing. i hope that any vancouverites that are available from tomorrow to saturday help out.
Vancouver Fans should be ashamed of themselves. They are ruining and trashing their city.. How much is that going to cost them to clean up.. I hope a lot of people were arrested and fined. Ridiculous.
How pathetic. I hope the many posted videos get more people caught so that they have to face consequences of those shameful actions. Just pathetic. It is too bad the Cunaks had to chock though, but rioting? What the H. E. Double hockey sticks people!
Alcohol, hype, aggression, disappointment, mob mentality, irrational energy, marauding hooligans and an unusually long lunar eclipse/full moon must have tipped the scale to create something reminiscent of Dante’s Inferno. The picture of the person on today’s Province of a man with outstretched arms and both hands showing the symbols of the devil’s horns, with fire raging behind him – was no comedy. It just goes to show – Insanity can be contagious.
About an update you posted about a man dying from being pushed off the Georgia Viaduct, not true. He is in the same cirlce of friends as mine.. He was not pushed, he was about to attempt to jump off to another platform, but misjudged the distance and slipped off, falling right in front of an ER from Whistler, who tended to him on the spot. The injured was in ICU up until recently, but still recovering in hospital. To my knowledge there was zero fatalities.
