Rapper Ja Rule sentenced to 28-month prison sentence for failing to pay taxes
Already in jail serving a 2-year prison sentence on unrelated gun charges, Ja Rule was sentenced Monday to 28-months in prison after admitting he did not file his taxes for five years.
The rapper pleaded guilty to three of five charges and was sentenced to 28-months in prison by U.S. Magistrate Judge Patty Shwartz who told Ja Rule during sentencing: “Taxpayers do not have the luxury of deciding whether to comply with laws.” Ja Rule was also ordered to pay the IRS a whopping $1,137,912.
Before starting his two-year gun charge sentence last month, Ja Rule told Good Day New York that he definitely has regrets about his prison sentences, mostly for his family. “I’ve got three kids. If there was anything that I regret, I regret that they have to go through this with me, and I’m not going to be there for them.”
Moments before Ja Rule’s sentencing Monday he told the media: “I in no way attempted to deceive the government or do anything illegal. I was a young man who made a lot of money – I’m getting a little choked up – I didn’t know how to deal with these finances, and I didn’t have people to guide me, so I made mistakes.”
